Overview

Steel erection in Blackpool and across the Fylde coast

Firms on the Blackpool and Fylde Industrial Estate off Progress Way and at Clifton Trade Park call us when a new unit, extension or mezzanine needs putting up. Council and care buildings add plant steel, and Fylde food producers add platforms beside their lines. Near the front, sea wind sets the limits in the lift plan.

Most Fylde work is portal frames, canopies and plant support steel. When a unit on Progress Way runs to a long row of bays, or a care home adds a framed wing, we supply the cranes for that lifting too. Jobs come from Bispham through Marton to Lytham St Annes, and up to Cleveleys and Fleetwood. For a single-span shed, the drawings and some photographs of the plot are usually enough for a price before the end of that working day.

What steel erection covers

Your fabricator makes the steel and our gang erects it: columns and rafters stood and bolted, the frame squared to the gridlines, then bracing, purlins and rails. LFS and SFS framing is part of the same work, and so is taking a frame down when a Fylde unit changes hands.

What we do

What we erect in Blackpool

Structure Where it goes up What sets the method
Trade counters and workshop units New plots off Progress Way and at Clifton Trade Park The run of crane set-ups down the building
Plant decks and support steel Roofs of health, care and council buildings Bearing points on the existing roof and the plant going on top
Mezzanine floors Engineering and food units that keep working The opening the steel comes through, and what the floor carries at each column
Side extensions and infill bays Against older sheds across Blackpool and Wyre What condition the existing columns are in
Canopies and light gauge framing Loading bays, town centre schemes and public buildings Bundle sizes and the order the walls are built in
Steel coming down to be reused Units being altered or cleared across the Fylde Which members hold the rest up as each one is released

The full scope sits on our steel erection and dismantling service page.

    Sectors

Where we work in and around Blackpool

Blackpool steel goes up on the motorway estates and inside Fylde buildings that stay open.

    Food production across the Fylde

Food halls take new platforms and steel to carry process equipment, erected around the cleaning schedule and production breaks. See our food and beverages page.

    New plots off Progress Way

Portal frame units, workshop extensions and canopies over loading doors are put up for manufacturers and trade firms near junction 4 of the M55 and at Clifton Trade Park. See our industrial sector page.

    Older units around the town

Mezzanines and infill bays go into older engineering and trade units across the town, with the businesses next door trading as normal. See our construction sector page.

Clinics, care homes and council buildings

Plant decks and small extensions are erected at health, care and public buildings that stay open, in hours the estates team agrees. See our healthcare and pharma page.

    Substation and utility sites

Equipment frames and access platforms go in at substations and utility sites along the coast, inside the operators’ outage windows. See our power and renewables page.

    Planning

Access and planning for steel erection in Blackpool

On the Fylde coast, the method is worked out around these:

    • Onshore gusts. Exposed plots near the sea take the worst of the weather, and a large LFS panel or long, light rafter becomes unsafe on the hook well below the crane’s own limit.
    • Blown sand and filled ground. Plots near the seafront can sit on sand or fill with services buried in it, so ground bearing is confirmed at each crane position and mats spread the outrigger load.
    • Lift planning during detailing. Our appointed person settles the crane positions and what each one can place before the fabricator finishes the drawings, and the loads are made up to that sequence.
    • The tramway and the road. Along the promenade the jib and load keep their distance from the tram’s overhead wires, and where they cannot, an isolation is booked well ahead. If the crane or a wagon needs road space, we apply to Blackpool Council, or to Lancashire County Council in Fylde and Wyre, and run the traffic management and road closure.
    • Guys and braces overnight. Whenever the gang stops, the part-built frame has to stand by itself, so permanent bracing follows the erection closely and temporary braces or guys hold any open bay.

    Alterations

    Alterations, mezzanines and dismantling

When a working building takes new steel, its existing columns and connections are measured and checked first, and your engineer signs off the tie-in. Take a mezzanine in a Bispham workshop: the building is roofed and the yard too tight for a crane, so the members come in through the roller shutter a few at a time.

Frames also come down, for a bigger layout or for reuse on another plot. The part still standing stays braced after every release, and pieces going back up carry match-marks so each returns to its place.

    Why Synergy

Why Blackpool firms choose Synergy Lifting for steel erection

    • New units and extensions near the M55. Portal frames, extensions and canopies go up for manufacturers and trade firms on Blackpool’s industrial estates.
    • Public buildings kept open. Health, care and council sites across the Fylde get plant steel and extensions with staff and visitors still inside.
    • One crew slings it and bolts it. The operatives rigging each member are the ones who erect it, working to the plan our appointed person wrote.
    • Qualified and accredited. CPCS and CSCS carded operatives, lifts planned to BS 7121 by an appointed person, equipment inspected under LOLER and PUWER, SSIP approved, Constructionline Gold Member, certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, and members of the Construction Plant-hire Association.

    Process

How a steel erection job works

    1. Email us the frame drawings, where the plot is and the weeks your programme gives the steel.

    2. We walk the plot: crane standings, ground, the way in for wagons, lay-down and what runs overhead.

    3. The lift plan comes from our appointed person, and the method statement and risk assessment are built on it, including how the part-built frame is held at each stage.

    4. Your fabricator loads each wagon to the erection order we agree with them.

    5. Frame up, braced, lined and levelled, then the cladders or the next trade take it on.

    FAQs

    Common questions

The lift plan gives each type of piece a wind limit, lower for large panels and long rafters than for columns. If the forecast is over it, those lifts move and the gang carries on bolting up and lining.

Yes. Cladding and roofing can go on the same order as the steel, so one programme covers the frame and the envelope. Send the cladding specification with the steel drawings and both are priced together.

We do. An appointed person plans every lift to BS 7121: where the crane stands, what it can place from each position, and how the frame stays stable at every break in the work. The same gang then rigs and erects to that plan.

Yes. Mezzanines and internal platforms go up with gantries, jacking equipment and our electric pick and carry crane, which works indoors without fumes. The steel comes in through a door and is lifted into place inside the building.
