Industrial plant dismantling in Nottingham and across Nottinghamshire

What dismantling covers
Plant comes apart in the reverse of the order it went up. It is isolated and made safe first, and at each stage we check what is still holding up what. Some of what comes off goes back up at another site or sells on as a working machine. The rest leaves as separated material with a scrap value. Access and planning for dismantling in Nottingham
What we sort out before any cutting starts in Nottingham:
- Overhead tram wires. Tram routes reach the centre, Hucknall, Clifton and Toton, and much of this work sits within reach of one. Where a section comes down near a wire, the clearance distance or an isolation is settled with the tram operator early.
- What is holding up what. Plant carries more than it looks like it carries, so we check each stage for what stays standing after the cut, and put temporary steel in where it is needed.
- The contents, and who clears them. The operator or a specialist cleans, purges and certifies the plant gas-free, and the cutting follows the shift the certificate covers.
- Access and rescue at height. Much of this work happens up on structures, so edge protection, platform positions and the rescue plan go into the lift plan.
- Crane standing and the way out. On the low-lying estates beside the Trent much of the ground is made, so outrigger loads and mat sizes are settled before a position is fixed. Sections are sized to the load-out route, and closures arranged with Nottingham City Council or Nottinghamshire County Council.
Dismantling for reuse, or for recovery
Where the plant is going back up elsewhere, the method changes before the first cut. Each item is match-marked and recorded as it comes apart, connections are broken at flanges and bolts instead of cut, and parts are packed for the journey and storage. The same goes for plant sold on as a working machine.
Plant at the end of its life is a different job. The value sits in segregation: stainless kept from carbon steel, cable and non-ferrous kept out of the mixed skip, and material sized so it can be weighed and sold. Most jobs mix the two. Common questions
Is our redundant plant at Bulwell worth recovering?
We would need to look at it. We go through each item, its condition and whether it comes apart at its connections, then tell you which to bring down intact and which are better cut for material.
Part of the plant sits under a tram wire. How does that work?
The tram operator agrees either a working clearance or an isolation, and the date for the heavy lifts follows whichever comes back. Give us the address early and that is settled before any dates are agreed.
How is dismantling different from demolition?
Demolition takes a structure down and the value is in the cleared site. Dismantling takes plant apart in the reverse of the order it went up, so what comes off keeps its value as equipment, as parts, or as material worth more separated than mixed. The planning takes longer and the work is slower, and on the right job it pays for itself.
Who cleans and certifies the plant before cutting?
Cleaning, purging and gas-free certification sit with the site operator or a specialist, and the sequence is planned around those certificates. Several are valid for one shift only, so the cutting is arranged to match when they can be issued. We agree all of that at survey and write it into the programme.
