Access and planning for dismantling in Lincoln
Every Lincoln job has these settled before cutting starts:
- Access and rescue up on the plant. Platform positions, edge protection, how each section is held as it is cut free and the rescue plan are written before anyone goes up.
- Roads, crossings and bridges out of the county. Sections leave by the A46, the A1 or the A15, and several approaches carry a level crossing or a low bridge where the railway cuts across. Each oversized piece has its route fixed at survey.
- Residual stability through the sequence. Plant carries more than it appears to, so each stage is checked for what the steel left holds, with temporary support up before the cut that needs it.
- Crane standing, bearing and the load-out point. Low-lying ground and farm yards turn soft, so outrigger loads and mat sizes are fixed before a date is. Road space and closures go through Lincolnshire County Council.
- What the plant held. Cleaning, purging and gas-free certification belong to the operator or a specialist, and cutting is booked against the shift each certificate covers.
Dismantling for reuse, or for recovery
Plant going back up, at your own site or a buyer’s, is taken apart as a kit. Connections are undone at flanges and bolts where the design allows, each piece is match-marked and recorded as it is freed, and items are crated for the road. Machinery sold on gets the same handling.
Plant at the end of its life is a different job, and the money is in segregation: stainless kept from carbon steel, cable and non-ferrous kept clear of the mixed skip, and material sized so it can be weighed and sold. Processing plant gives up a good deal of stainless, and keeping it clear of everything else is most of the sorting. Most jobs carry both, so say on the enquiry which items you want kept, and those come off at the start while there is room around them.

Common questions
Can a grain store and its dryer come out between harvests?
Yes, with a survey early enough to price it. We look at the yard surface, the dryer structure and where a crane can stand, then set the sequence to the weeks you have free.
How are sections sized when loads leave on A roads?
The route is driven and measured at survey, with every crossing, bridge and tight turn recorded. Each piece is cut to what that route will take.
How is dismantling different from demolition?
Demolition takes a structure down and the value is in the cleared site. Dismantling takes plant apart in the reverse of the order it went up, so what comes off keeps its value as equipment, as parts, or as material worth more separated than mixed. The planning takes longer and the work is slower, and on the right job it pays for itself.
Who cleans and certifies the plant before cutting?
Cleaning, purging and gas-free certification sit with the site operator or a specialist, and the sequence is planned around those certificates. Several are valid for one shift only, so the cutting is arranged to match when they can be issued. We agree all of that at survey and write it into the programme.
