Crane hire in Lincoln and across Lincolnshire
We provide crane hire in Lincoln, a city with two quite separate lifting problems. Uphill, around the cathedral and the castle, the streets are steep, narrow and listed, and the answer is nearly always a small machine in one carefully chosen position. Downhill and out along the bypass it is estate and distribution work with room to set up. Lincolnshire has no motorway, so everything arrives on the A1 and the A46.

Access and planning for lifts in Lincoln
Every site is different, but a few things come up again and again on Lincoln jobs:
- No motorway. Everything comes in on the A1 and the A46, with the A15, A17 and A57 feeding the rest of the county. That makes route planning and timing more important here than in most places, and we do both before we quote.
- Uphill Lincoln. The streets up to the cathedral are steep, narrow and weight restricted, with setts and listed frontages. Gradient affects levelling and what a crane can safely lift at radius, so the standing position gets settled first and it usually decides the machine.
- Level crossings and low bridges. The rail lines through and around the city put crossings and bridges on several approaches, which limits the route for abnormal loads. We check that as part of the plan.
- Ground conditions. Fen and low-lying farmland is soft, and rural access is often a field entrance rather than a road. We confirm ground bearing and outrigger positions, and use crane mats where needed.
- Road closures. Where a lift needs part of a road or pavement closed, we can arrange the traffic management and road closure with Lincolnshire County Council as part of the job.

Common questions
Can you get a crane up to the cathedral quarter?
Often, yes, but it depends on the approach, the gradient and whether there is anywhere to stand. Send us the address and photos of the street and the building, and we’ll tell you what is workable before you commit to a date.
Can you work on a farm or a rural processing site?
Yes, and a lot of our county work is exactly that. Field and yard access and soft ground are the usual constraints, so we check what the ground will carry, plan the outrigger positions and bring crane mats where the bearing is marginal.
Do you cover Newark, Sleaford and Grantham?
