Access and planning for a machine move in Lincoln
Points we check on most Lincoln jobs:
- Getting loads in and out. There is no motorway near Lincoln, so heavy loads come in on the A1 and the A46, with the A15, A57 and A158 serving the rest of the county. Level crossings and low rail bridges sit on several approaches, and we route around them before we quote.
- Uphill Lincoln. Streets up the hill climb sharply, carry weight limits and pass listed frontages on setts. We settle where a vehicle can stand and how the machine gets from there to the door before we fix the kit.
- Floors and ground. Farm yards and fen ground can be soft, and older works floors may not take a point load. We check bearing and spread the load with plates or mats.
- Working around the season. Processing sites have busy periods, so line moves go into the quieter weeks you give us.

Moving large or heavy machinery by road
A vehicle and load over 44,000kg gross, 2.9m wide or 18.65m long is an abnormal load. Up to 80,000kg the highway and bridge authorities need two clear working days’ notice through ESDAL, rising to five above that, when the police need notice too. Loads over 2.9m wide or 18.65m long also need two clear working days’ notice to the police. Above 150,000kg or 6.1m wide a Special Order is needed, applied for about ten weeks ahead. We handle the notifications ourselves or with your haulier. Heavy loads leaving Lincoln take the A46 bypass towards Newark and the A1, or the A15 north and south.

Common questions
Can you move a processing line on a farm or pack house site?
Yes, and plenty of our county work is on exactly those sites. We look at the yard surface, the building doors and the hall layout, lay mats where the ground is soft, and agree with you which sections have to be running again first.
Can you move a machine in or out of a building uphill?
Yes, as a rule. Send us the address and photos of the street, the entrance and the machine. We work out where a vehicle can stand and whether the machine goes out whole or in pieces, and tell you before you book a date.
Who disconnects and reconnects the machine?
Mechanical disconnection and making safe is usually ours, and we set the machine down accurately enough for commissioning. Electrical and control reconnection is coordinated with your own engineers or the machine manufacturer, with who covers what agreed at survey stage.
Can you move a machine that has broken down?
