What dismantling covers

Access and planning for dismantling in Hull
What gets agreed on a Hull job before the first cut:
- Crane standing, bearing and the route out. The city’s low-lying made ground decides outrigger positions and skate routes, and road space is booked through Hull City Council or East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
- What carries the load once a piece is out. Loads show themselves only when something is removed, so each stage is checked for what is left standing, with temporary steel designed in where needed.
- Working up on the plant. Vessels, pipe bridges and roof steel bring edge protection, anchor points, each section slung before its connection is released, and rescue planning.
- What the plant held. Cleaning, purging and gas-free certification are the operator’s or a specialist’s work, and cutting follows those certificates, several of which last a single shift.
- Wind off the Humber. The estuary is open, so the forecast is checked against the crane limits and the shape of each section before a cutting date is confirmed, and a fallback date goes into the programme.
Dismantling for reuse, or for recovery
Plant going back up, at your own site or a buyer’s, is treated as a kit from day one. Joints are broken at flanges and bolts wherever the design allows, every piece is match-marked and photographed against the drawing, and items are crated for the lorry. Machinery sold on as working equipment is handled the same way.
Where plant has reached the end of its life the money sits in separation. Stainless is kept clear of carbon steel, cable and non-ferrous go into their own containers instead of the mixed skip, and sections are cut to weighable sizes. Hull jobs are frequently both. The survey ends with a marked-up list of what stays yours, and nothing is cut for weight until those pieces are down and packed.

How a dismantling job works

Common questions
Can cold store plant come out while the factory keeps producing?
Yes. The area handed to us is sealed off and agreed with your engineering and hygiene teams. Where hot work would cross that boundary, sections are parted cold, and heavier lifts wait for a cleaning window.
When do loads leave a Hull site for the M62?
Load-out hours go into the programme at survey, because the A63 approach to the docks backs up at the busier parts of the day. Wide sections have their route checked before the wagon is booked.
How is dismantling different from demolition?
Demolition takes a structure down and the value is in the cleared site. Dismantling takes plant apart in the reverse of the order it went up, so what comes off keeps its value as equipment, as parts, or as material worth more separated than mixed. The planning takes longer and the work is slower, and on the right job it pays for itself.
Who cleans and certifies the plant before cutting?
Cleaning, purging and gas-free certification sit with the site operator or a specialist, and the sequence is planned around those certificates. Several are valid for one shift only, so the cutting is arranged to match when they can be issued. We agree all of that at survey and write it into the programme.
