Access and planning for a factory move in York

Points we check on most York relocations:

Loading inside the walls. A workshop within the walls has to be cleared through bars with fixed height and width limits, on streets that are pedestrian for much of the day. We size trailers and loading times to suit.
A new building that is ready in time. Machines are booked in only once the slab, bases, power and air at the new unit are finished and each item has a way in.
Getting the plant out of the old building. We measure doors and headroom, and check whether cladding or a roof panel can come off for the largest machines.
The slab at each address. We confirm what each slab will carry under skates and jacks, and spread the load with plates where needed.
City of York Council and the roads out. If a load-out needs part of a road or pavement, we arrange the traffic management and closure with the council. Abnormal loads are notified where needed before they head out on the A64 or the A19.

A phased move keeps your order book moving. The lines you can spare go first and start running at the new site, then the remaining plant follows. We work weekends and shutdowns, and a Layerthorpe firm moving out to Clifton Moor can run both buildings until the last machine crosses.

Storage covers the gap between leaving your old unit and the new one being ready, and machines come out once the bases have cured. Equipment you are leaving behind can go for sale or disposal on the same visits.

How a factory relocation works

Tell us both addresses, roughly how many machines there are and when production must restart.
We survey both buildings and draw up the asset register. For a smaller move, a desktop survey gives you a price the same day.
You receive a quote and programme built on the move sequence, with method statements, risk assessments and lift plans.
The crew extracts and packs the plant, then hauls it to the new site in sequence.
Each machine is reinstalled, levelled and set to line, then handed to your engineers for recommissioning.

Common questions

Can you move our York plant to a sister factory in Europe?

Yes. We decommission the plant with your engineers, crate each machine and arrange transport, then reinstall it at the receiving site. Tell us the destination and the date that plant needs to be running.

Our university department is changing buildings. Can the move fit between terms?

Yes. We survey the old and new rooms early and book the move into the break, in an order agreed with your technical staff, so the new rooms open with their equipment in place.

Can we keep producing while we move?

In most cases, yes, for part of the plant. We move the lines you can spare first and get them running at the new site, then bring the rest across. It means more visits, and it keeps output going while the move is under way. We tell you at survey which parts can overlap.

How are disconnection and recommissioning handled?

We agree who does what at survey and write it into the programme. It is a mix of our crew, your maintenance team and the equipment manufacturers, and everyone knows their part before the first machine moves. Recommissioning is done with your engineers or the manufacturer.
