Access and planning for a factory move in Leeds

Points we check on most Leeds relocations:

Tall loads and the inner ring road. The tunnelled parts of the inner ring road cannot take a tall machine on a trailer, so every high or wide item has its route fixed before the lorry is booked.
A receiving building that is ready. Floor, machine bases, supplies and a way in for each item, in place on the dates they are needed.
The way out of the old works. Doors, headroom, yard space and whether a roof panel can come off. Older buildings in Holbeck and Hunslet sometimes need cladding opened for the largest machines.
Slabs under skates and jacks. Former mills and works can have basements under the ground floor, so we check the slab at both ends and spread the load where needed.
Leeds City Council and oversized items. Where a load-out needs part of a road or pavement, we arrange the traffic management and closure with the council, and abnormal loads are notified where needed before they join the M1 or M62.

Common questions

We are moving from Hunslet to a new unit near the M62. Can you handle both ends?

Yes. We survey the building you are leaving and the one you are going to, then plan the whole move as one programme with a single point of contact. Both addresses and photos of the plant are enough to start.

What if our new Leeds unit is not finished on the day we have to leave?

We take the equipment into storage and deliver it once the bases and services are ready. Storage goes into the programme from the start, so leaving and installing can happen on different dates.

Can we keep producing while we move?

In most cases, yes, for part of the plant. We move the lines you can spare first and get them running at the new site, then bring the rest across. It means more visits, and it keeps output going while the move is under way. We tell you at survey which parts can overlap.

How are disconnection and recommissioning handled?

We agree who does what at survey and write it into the programme. It is a mix of our crew, your maintenance team and the equipment manufacturers, and everyone knows their part before the first machine moves. Recommissioning is done with your engineers or the manufacturer.
