Overview

Steel erection in Deeside and across Flintshire

Deeside’s steel work comes from firms on Deeside Industrial Park and around Sealand and Garden City, from aerospace and precision engineering suppliers, and from new building around Chester and Mold. England starts a few miles east of Queensferry, so a plot there and one in Chester answer to different councils.

On the park that means portal frames, mezzanines and platform steel, and we lift bigger buildings too, such as an aerospace supplier’s assembly hall with offices along one side. Work runs from Saltney and Flint to Mold, Chester and Ellesmere Port. Send drawings and photographs of a new unit on the park and a price normally comes back that working day.

What steel erection covers

We erect the steel your fabricator supplies. The frame is stood, bolted up, lined and levelled, with bracing, secondary steel and LFS or SFS framing fitted by the same gang. Frames needing a new layout or a new home are dismantled too.

    Sectors

Where we work in and around Deeside

Deeside frames and platforms go up in these places.

Halls for aerospace and precision suppliers

Equipment platforms, mezzanine offices and extensions go into aerospace and precision engineering halls, where floor finishes and clean areas set the rules. See our aerospace sector page.

New units on Deeside Industrial Park

Portal frames and multi-bay halls go up on plots across the park and at Sealand, raised bay by bay as the groundworks release each area. See our industrial sector page.

    Flintshire food and packaging plants

Mezzanines, platforms over production lines and small extensions go into plants across the county, fitted in shutdowns or screened off beside a running line. See our food and beverages page.

Offshore wind firms along the coast

Workshop extensions, canopies and equipment steel go up for businesses supplying offshore wind along the north Wales coast. See our power and renewables page.

Schemes and public buildings around Chester and Mold

Housing and commercial builds in and around both take frames and canopies, and health and education buildings take roof steel for new plant. See our construction and healthcare and pharma pages.

    Planning

Access and planning for steel erection in Deeside

On Deeside, these settle how and when the steel goes up:

    • Each bay braced before the gang moves on. The part-built frame is left stable at every break, with temporary bracing or guys where the permanent bracing follows later.
    • Three councils within a few miles. A road closure or footway licence goes to Flintshire County Council, Wrexham County Borough Council or Cheshire West and Chester Council, depending on the street, and one delivery can set off in England and finish in Wales. We confirm the authority first and arrange the traffic management and road closure.
    • The lift plan on the fabricator’s desk. Our appointed person writes it before the steel is ordered, so the fabricator can load each trailer around what the crane places from each standing.
    • Approach by the A55, A494 or A548. Long trailers for the park usually come off the A494 at Queensferry or along the A548, so length and route are matched early. On a plot short of lay-down, loads come straight off the bed.
    • Made ground on the old marsh. The park was built on land taken back from the Dee, with drainage ditches and culverts running under it. Each standing gets its own ground check before the outrigger mats are chosen.

    Alterations

    Alterations, mezzanines and dismantling

Steel added to a hall on the industrial park that keeps producing is tied into a frame we survey before anything is bolted on. Inside a clean hall with the roof on, a mezzanine goes up from the floor on the electric pick and carry crane.

When a frame has to come down for a new layout or another site, members are released in an order that keeps the standing part stable. Pieces bound for re-erection get their match-marks while the frame is still whole.

    Why Synergy

Why Deeside firms choose Synergy Lifting for steel erection

    • Halls and extensions on the industrial park. Production halls, added bays and mezzanines go up for firms across the park.
    • Used to precision halls. Our gangs erect inside aerospace and engineering buildings to the floor protection, cleanliness and tolerance rules those halls set.
    • Planned and put up by the same people. Our appointed person fixes the crane positions alongside the gang that rigs and bolts each member, and that gang follows the plan on the day.
    • Qualified and accredited. CPCS and CSCS carded operatives, lifts planned to BS 7121 by an appointed person, equipment inspected under LOLER and PUWER, SSIP approved, Constructionline Gold Member, certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, and members of the Construction Plant-hire Association.

    Process

How a steel erection job works

    1. Email the drawings and steel schedule to the Deeside inbox with the site address and programme.

    2. A site visit records crane standings, ground, delivery access, lay-down and overhead lines.

    3. The appointed person writes the lift plan, and the method statement and risk assessment state how the frame is held until its permanent bracing is in.

    4. Your fabricator gets a written delivery order that follows the erection sequence.

    5. Steel goes up and is braced as each bay forms, then lined and levelled, and the frame is handed to the next trade.

    FAQs

    Common questions

The closure goes to the council for the street the crane or trailer stands on, which for a Deeside plot is usually Flintshire County Council. If a trailer has to wait or unload on an English street, Cheshire West and Chester Council covers that part. We apply once we have the address.

If the plot has room, the lift plan marks a lay-down area within the crane’s reach. If it does not, the fabricator splits the steel into loads packed in erection order, and each one is called forward as the crane is ready.

We do. An appointed person plans every lift to BS 7121: where the crane stands, what it can place from each position, and how the frame stays stable at every break in the work. The same gang then rigs and erects to that plan.

Yes. Mezzanines and internal platforms go up with gantries, jacking equipment and our electric pick and carry crane, which works indoors without fumes. The steel comes in through a door and is lifted into place inside the building.
