A start at the kerb. Central sites have no spare ground, so the item is craned off the lorry from the highway, at times over a neighbouring roof with permission to oversail. Our crew takes over on the pavement.
What lies under the route. Canal structures and old cellars sit beneath parts of the centre, and some older industrial land is filled ground. We check the slab along the route and lay mats or steel track where needed.
Headroom and the way through. We measure clearance with the item on the equipment, then every door and threshold on the way to the base.
Buildings that stay open. Offices and wards carry on around us, so moves are booked outside busy hours.
Road space. If unloading takes a lane or pavement, we apply to Birmingham City Council for the closure and bring the traffic management.

Getting it where it needs to go

Common questions

Can you get plant into a city-centre building with no loading bay?

Yes. A crane in the street or a gantry at the kerb takes the unit off the lorry, and we skate it in through the entrance. We apply for any closure and give you the lead time when we quote.

Can you replace switchgear in a central Birmingham office or apartment block overnight?

Yes. The new panels are staged beforehand, then the old ones come out and the new ones go in during the outage agreed with the building manager. Your electrical contractor connects each panel once it is on its base.

How much headroom do you need?

Less than most people expect, but it decides the method. What counts is the gap between the top of the item and the lowest obstruction on the route once the item is on the equipment. Where it is tight we use a low-headroom gantry or jacks and lift in smaller steps.

Will you damage our floor?

Not if the route is prepared, and that preparation is part of the price. We spread the load with mats or tracks where the slab needs it, protect finished surfaces, and agree beforehand what gets covered and what gets made good.
