Access and planning for dismantling in Glasgow
Each of these is settled before the first cut is planned in Glasgow:
- Height, access and rescue. Much of this work happens above floor level, so scaffold, edge protection, anchor points and rescue go into the method statement.
- The M8 and the central grid. A central address is reached off the motorway that cuts through the middle of the city, and the streets above climb hard with little room to stand a wagon, so the hour each load runs is written in.
- Residual stability through the sequence. Plant holds itself up in ways that show only once a piece has gone, so the order of removal leaves what remains stable, with temporary support where needed.
- What the vessels and lines contained. The operator or its specialist handles cleaning, purging and gas-free certification, and the programme is built around the dates those certificates carry.
- Crane standing and the way out. Land along the river was built out over water, and old workings run beneath parts of the south and east, so pads are sized to the pressure each leg puts down. Where sections load from the road, the closure is arranged with Glasgow City Council, Renfrewshire, North or South Lanarkshire, or East or West Dunbartonshire.
Dismantling for reuse, or for recovery
Anything being re-erected elsewhere is taken apart as a kit. Each item is match-marked and recorded against the drawing, connections are released instead of cut, and every section is packed for the road or the crossing. Machines sold on as working plant get the same care.
What an end-of-life plant is worth depends on how it is separated. Grades are landed apart as they come down, cable and non-ferrous have containers of their own, and material is cut down to a size the weighbridge wants. Most Glasgow jobs are a mixture, a distiller keeping vessels and clearing the rest. Common questions
Can plant come out of a Hillington Park unit while production continues?
Yes. The area is hoarded, an exclusion zone agreed with your site team and noisier cutting put into set hours. Send photos of the plant and the approach.
Our distillery has a single shutdown window. How is it planned?
Survey, scaffold, props and route preparation happen while the plant runs. Certification dates are fixed to the window, then cutting and lifting are programmed against them.
How is dismantling different from demolition?
Demolition takes a structure down and the value is in the cleared site. Dismantling takes plant apart in the reverse of the order it went up, so what comes off keeps its value as equipment, as parts, or as material worth more separated than mixed. The planning takes longer and the work is slower, and on the right job it pays for itself.
Who cleans and certifies the plant before cutting?
Cleaning, purging and gas-free certification sit with the site operator or a specialist, and the sequence is planned around those certificates. Several are valid for one shift only, so the cutting is arranged to match when they can be issued. We agree all of that at survey and write it into the programme.
