Industrial plant dismantling in Dover and across east Kent
We dismantle industrial plant in Dover for freight and marine businesses, engineering firms on the estates, and hospital, school and utility estates teams. Jobs run from one redundant vessel to a whole factory floor, taking in batching plants, tank farms and process lines. The survey and the method come before anything else, and the job then runs in order: isolation, cutting, lifting down, segregation and load-out.
We cover Dover, Whitfield, Aycliffe, River and Buckland, the coast through Deal and Folkestone, and Sandwich, Canterbury and Ashford. Where an area is only free once the rest of the site stops, we work shutdowns, evenings and nights. Send photographs and drawings and the desktop survey is priced inside the day.
What dismantling covers
The build sequence runs backwards, one connection at a time. A unit bound for another site, or a machine sold on to work again, is match-marked and recorded while it still stands, then split at bolts and flanges and packed. What stays behind is cut for material, with the metals kept apart and sized for the weighbridge.
What we dismantle in Dover
| Plant | What decides the method | How it comes apart |
|---|---|---|
| Conveyors, hoppers and cargo handling gear | Hours the area is handed over | Drives off, frame cut at its splices |
| Tanks, silos and fuel storage | What it stored, and the clearing certificate | Shell parted at planned seams over props |
| Boilers, chillers and air handling plant | Width of the stair, hatch or lift | Broken to pieces that clear the opening |
| Pipework, pipe bridges and service runs | What else the same supports carry | Cut to lengths, each held until clear |
| Machine bases, presses and extraction plant | Whether the shop works on around it | Bolts released, frame lifted whole |
| Generators, switchgear and substation plant | The outage the operator can give | Cabling out, then skated clear and craned |

Where we work in and around Dover
The work divides across six kinds of site.
Businesses on the port side of town
Conveyors, hoppers, workshop plant and redundant services come out of freight and storage operations along the front. See our maritime sector page.
Estates at Whitfield, Aycliffe and Sandwich
Engineering and manufacturing firms north of the town take out presses, machine bases, compressors and extraction plant when a line is replaced. See our industrial sector page.
Sea defences, boatyards and harbour plant
Winches, handling gear and pumps come off harbour structures and open ground at Deal, Walmer and Folkestone, in the window the tide gives.
Hotels, offices and older town premises
Boilers, chillers and water tanks in seafront and town-centre buildings leave in pieces sized for the stair or hatch. See our HVAC sector page.
School, college and hospital estates
Plant rooms and workshop equipment give up old kit inside term breaks, with the route out settled first. See our education and healthcare and pharma pages.
Substations, water sites and the Kent lines
Redundant transformers, panels and treatment plant come out of utility compounds and lineside buildings, inside booked outages and possessions. See our power and renewables and rail pages.
Access and planning for dismantling in Dover
On a Dover job these come first, before any cutting date:
- Crane position, and the bearing under it. The high side of the town sits on chalk and the strip along the water is made up, and there is little room between the buildings and the sea, so the standing spot is proved before the sequence is written. Road space goes through Kent County Council.
- Contents, cleaning and certificates. The operator or a specialist purges the plant and certifies it gas-free, and since each certificate runs for a shift, the cutting is grouped to fit.
- Keeping the rest standing. Steel and pipework carry more than the drawings suggest, so what each stage leaves behind is checked and the props are on site before the first release.
- When the wagons run. Ferry-bound lorries fill the approach roads at the wrong hours and a queue costs a load-out slot, so wagon times are set with the site first.
- The crew’s own access. Most cutting happens off the floor, so the plan sets out how each position is reached, what protects the edge, where the anchors go and how a casualty is recovered.
Dismantling for reuse, or for recovery
Recording comes before any spanner on plant that is going back up. Each piece takes a mark, its place on the layout is written down and photographed, joints are opened at bolts and flanges, and cases are built to suit the lorry. A machine sold on to work again gets the same handling.
What a finished plant returns comes down to separation. Stainless goes to its own box, carbon steel to another, cable and non-ferrous to their own containers, and the rest is cut to weighbridge lengths. Both turn up on one job, a chiller pack bound for another building while the room goes for weight. Yard room is short in the town, so containers stand where the wagons reach and your keep list is crated before the rest is cut.
Postcodes and areas we cover
We cover every CT postcode and the districts around the town:
- Dover: town centre, the port area, Whitfield, Aycliffe, River and Buckland
- The coast: Deal, Walmer, St Margaret’s, Folkestone and Hythe
- North and west: Sandwich, Canterbury, Ramsgate, Margate and Ashford
- Wider area: Maidstone, Tonbridge, Tenterden and the rest of Kent
We dismantle plant right across the UK and into Europe.
Why Dover firms choose Synergy Lifting for dismantling
- Services and supports go out with the plant. Cable, ductwork, pipe runs and the steel that carried them come down with the item, so the area is left clear for whatever follows.
- Plant bound for Europe, cased on site. Items going abroad are marked, listed and cased to suit the transport your freight forwarder books, and loaded onto the vehicle it sends.
- You hold one contract and one programme. Crane and operator, rigging crew, cutting gang and wagons come from us, so one supervisor answers for the sequence.
- Qualified and accredited. CPCS and NPORS operators, lifts planned to BS 7121, equipment inspected under LOLER and PUWER, SSIP approved, Constructionline Gold Member, certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, and members of the Construction Plant-hire Association.
More than dismantling
Dover dismantling jobs also bring in:
How a dismantling job works
- Start with the plant: what it is, what ran through it, which items you want back, and any photographs or drawings.
- The survey settles where the plant breaks, what temporary steel goes in, and an order of removal that holds the structure up as it shrinks.
- The method statement, risk assessment and lift plan follow, with the permit and certificate dates written alongside.
- Isolations are signed off first, then cutting, lifting down and segregation follow the written order.
- Load-out finishes it, and anything for re-erection leaves with its records and match-marks.
Common questions
Our area is handed over for only part of the day. Can cutting fit that?
Yes. The sequence runs in shifts that each end with the structure stable and the floor clear, so the space goes back at the agreed hour. Permits and isolations are raised and closed inside the same window.
What records come with plant being re-erected elsewhere?
A marked-up list of every item, photographs of each connection against the drawing, part marks on the pieces and a packing list. Lift records and gear certificates come too, so the site rebuilds in the order it came apart.
How is dismantling different from demolition?
Demolition takes a structure down and the value is in the cleared site. Dismantling takes plant apart in the reverse of the order it went up, so what comes off keeps its value as equipment, as parts, or as material worth more separated than mixed. The planning takes longer and the work is slower, and on the right job it pays for itself.
Who cleans and certifies the plant before cutting?
Cleaning, purging and gas-free certification sit with the site operator or a specialist, and the sequence is planned around those certificates. Several are valid for one shift only, so the cutting is arranged to match when they can be issued. We agree all of that at survey and write it into the programme.
