Industrial plant dismantling in Stoke-on-Trent and across Staffordshire
We dismantle industrial plant in Stoke for pottery and tile works, sanitaryware makers, engineering and plastics firms, food producers, warehouse operators on the A500 and estates teams in public buildings. Jobs run from a factory stripped back to its floor to a batching plant, process line, tank farm or single vessel taken down. Each starts with a survey and a method: isolation, cutting and separation in order, lifting down, segregation and load-out.
Our crews cover Hanley, Burslem, Tunstall, Longton, Fenton and Stoke itself, and out to Newcastle-under-Lyme, Kidsgrove, Trentham, Stone and Leek. Night and shutdown working goes in when the works needs it, and a desktop survey prices most enquiries the same working day.
What dismantling covers
Plant is taken apart in the reverse of the order it was built, so what comes off holds its worth. Equipment with life left is marked, recorded and packed for re-erection elsewhere, and machines with a buyer leave working. What has finished is separated at the cut face, so material is weighed and sold.
What we dismantle in Stoke
| Plant | What decides the method | How it comes apart |
|---|---|---|
| Kilns, spray dryers and materials plant | Whether the shell is rebuilt elsewhere | Burners and drives off, casing released at its joints |
| Presses and forming machines | What holds the frame square once tooling is out | Rams and tooling away, frame parted at its bolts |
| Conveyors, sortation frames and mezzanine steel | The floor area handed over each shift | Belts and drives first, steel unbolted down the run |
| Compressors, extraction plant and boiler houses | Services still feeding the works | Isolated at the header, ducting dropped, units split for the doorway |
| Gantry steel, walkways and pipe racks | What stands alone once a member goes | Props in first, members lifted out singly |

Where we work in and around Stoke
Stoke dismantling work comes out of six kinds of site.
Redundant firing and forming plant
Kilns, presses, spray dryers and materials plant define this city’s equipment, and the old line comes out when a works re-equips. See our industrial sector page.
Etruria Valley, Trentham Lakes and Festival Park
Machine tools, moulding machines, compressors and extraction plant come out when a line is replaced or a unit goes back. See our plastics and metals page.
Handling systems on the A50 and A500
Warehouses here change their systems when a contract moves, belts, drives, sortation frames and mezzanine steel coming out bay by bay. See our construction sector page.
Process plant in Staffordshire food factories
Tanks, refrigeration packs and packing equipment leave working factories inside a cleaning stop, hygiene boundaries deciding where cutting happens. See our food and beverages page.
Plant rooms in hospitals and colleges
Boilers, calorifiers, chillers and air handling units come out of buildings that stay open, on routes the estates team hands over. See our healthcare and pharma and education pages.
Recycling, energy and water treatment
Recycling and energy from waste plant, substation equipment and pumping sets come down inside a booked outage. See our waste and recycling and power and renewables pages.
Access and planning for dismantling in Stoke
Nothing is cut on a Stoke job until these are settled:
- Working at height. This work happens on structures and roofs, so the lift plan covers access, edge protection, what holds each member as it is cut, and rescue.
- The contents, and the certificates. Cleaning, purging and gas-free certification come from the site operator or a specialist, and cutting is booked inside the hours each covers.
- Crane standing and the way off site. Much of the city stands on former colliery, marl and pottery waste ground, so bearing pressures and outrigger positions are confirmed before the crane position is fixed. Sections are cut to what the load-out route takes, running to the A500 for the M6 or east on the A50, and closures go through Stoke-on-Trent City Council or Staffordshire County Council outside it.
- What is left holding the rest. Each cut changes what the frame beside it is carrying, so the stages are checked in order and props and temporary steel go in ahead of the ones that need them.
- Openings in older works. Door widths, headroom and yard space across the six towns were settled long before this plant went in, so sections follow the opening rather than the crane.
Dismantling for reuse, or for recovery
Where plant is going back up, at your own works or a buyer’s, the method serves that rebuild from day one. Each item is match-marked and its position recorded while the plant is whole, connections are undone at bolts and flanges in place of cutting, and pieces are crated for the lorry. Machines sold on get the same care.
Plant at its end of life turns on separation. Stainless is kept from carbon steel, cable and non-ferrous go into their own containers, and material is cut to lengths a weighbridge takes. Most Stoke jobs mix the two, a kiln casing going for material while its burners and drives are kept. Mark up at survey the items you want back, and they come clear while the frame still stands.

Why Stoke firms choose Synergy Lifting for dismantling
- The survey sets the sequence. Plant altered over the years seldom matches its file, so the cutting order is built from what the survey finds standing, and that is what the quote covers.
- Isolations agreed with your engineers. Power, gas, steam and compressed air isolations are settled with your maintenance team and written into the sequence before a connection is broken.
- Crane, crews and wagons on one order. The operator, the riggers, the cutting crews and the wagons taking material away are ours, and one programme covers all of them.
- Qualified and accredited. CPCS and NPORS operators, lifts planned to BS 7121, equipment inspected under LOLER and PUWER, SSIP approved, Constructionline Gold Member, certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, and members of the Construction Plant-hire Association.
More than dismantling
The rest of what we do in Stoke:
How a dismantling job works
- Start with what the plant is, what it held and whether any is kept, with photographs and drawings.
- The survey follows, and the method built on it: a cutting order that keeps what remains stable throughout.
- You receive the method statement, risk assessment and lift plan with the certificate dates the site agrees.
- On site the plant is isolated, then cut, lowered and segregated in the planned order, the items you keep taken clear early.
- Load-out ends the job, records and match-marks going with whatever is re-erected.
Common questions
Our kiln is being replaced. Is any of the old one worth keeping?
Yes, and it is settled at survey. Burners, drives, fans and control panels come off before the casing is touched, and steel and refractory separate as sections are lowered.
Our Festival Park unit has two machines with buyers waiting. Can both leave in one visit?
Yes. Those two come out whole and crated for their buyers, and the rest is taken down and segregated afterwards.
How is dismantling different from demolition?
Demolition takes a structure down and the value is in the cleared site. Dismantling takes plant apart in the reverse of the order it went up, so what comes off keeps its value as equipment, as parts, or as material worth more separated than mixed. The planning takes longer and the work is slower, and on the right job it pays for itself.
Who cleans and certifies the plant before cutting?
Cleaning, purging and gas-free certification sit with the site operator or a specialist, and the sequence is planned around those certificates. Several are valid for one shift only, so the cutting is arranged to match when they can be issued. We agree all of that at survey and write it into the programme.
