Factory relocation in Stoke-on-Trent and across Staffordshire
In Stoke we move kilns and presses for ceramics works, and whole plants for engineering firms, plastics moulders, food producers and warehouse operators by the A500. We take the whole move on from one point of contact: survey and asset register, disconnection and decommissioning alongside your engineers and the equipment manufacturers, strip-out and dismantling, lifting the machinery out, packing and crating, transport, then offloading, positioning, reinstallation, levelling, setting to line and recommissioning at the new site, anywhere in the UK or into Europe.
Our crews cover the six towns from Tunstall down to Longton, and out to Newcastle-under-Lyme, Kidsgrove, Trentham, Stone and Leek. A desktop survey can price a move the same working day.
What a factory relocation covers
A relocation can take in the whole factory or a single department, from kilns and presses to CNC machine tools, conveyors and racking. Machines with no place at the new site can leave for sale or disposal on the same visit. If the new building lags behind your exit date, equipment waits in our storage until it is ready.
Factory moves we plan in Stoke
| Type of move | What sets the timetable | What we handle |
|---|---|---|
| Moving to a bigger or newer unit | Sign-off of the new floor, bases and supplies | Plant taken from an older works in the six towns and rebuilt to the new layout |
| Bringing two sites onto one | The week the closing site stops production | Incoming machines numbered to their places on a merged floor plan |
| A closure, with working plant going to a sister site in the UK or abroad | The fitting dates the receiving factory can offer | Crating after isolation, loading to your forwarder’s booking and removal of leftover plant |
| Rearranging a factory within the same building or site | Which kilns or lines can come off during the change | Short moves across the hall, each machine set true on its new base |
| A single line or department moving | A works shutdown at summer or Christmas | The line split at marked joints and reconnected section by section |
| A lease end forcing a move | The day the landlord inspects the empty unit | Plant out and racking down beforehand, with storage covering any gap |
Our factory relocation service page covers the work from survey to handover.

Where we work in and around Stoke
Stoke relocations come from varied businesses.
Ceramics works across the six towns
A pottery or tile works changing premises takes its forming presses, glaze lines and spray dryers with it, along with the kilns, each rebuilt to the new layout. See our industrial sector page.
Plastics and metal firms around Etruria and Trentham Lakes
Engineering and plastics firms fill units at Etruria Valley, Trentham Lakes and Festival Park, and factory relocations sit alongside machine tool moves in our work there. Moulding machines and CNC plant are set to line before the tooling goes back in. See our plastics and metals page.
Logistics firms changing sheds
Distribution businesses on the A50 and A500 take conveyors and sortation equipment with them when they change sheds, and it goes back in the order picking will restart. See our construction sector page.
Staffordshire food manufacturers
Process tanks and packing lines from the county’s food producers are protected on the lorry and handed over clean, ready for your hygiene checks. See our food and beverages page.
College and public sector workshops
When a college or health service department changes building, its workshop and test equipment move on dates set around teaching or clinics. See our healthcare and pharma and education pages.
Access and planning for a factory move in Stoke
Points we check on most Stoke relocations:
- Bridges and weight limits on the way out. Tall machines leaving an older works have to reach the A500, for the M6 at junction 15 or 16, or the A50 heading east. The survey fixes each load’s route around low bridges and restricted roads.
- Machine bases in the new building. Floor, bases, supplies and a clear way in must be ready on the programme dates, and the receiving unit is checked against them before the first load.
- Doorways in the old works. Buildings here went up long before forklifts. Door sizes, headroom, yard space and whether a roof panel or cladding can come off decide how each machine leaves.
- Slabs on made ground. The city’s mining and clay-digging past left filled ground in many places. Both slabs and any crane standing are checked for the point loads from jacks and skates, and plates or mats spread them.
- City and county highways. Road or pavement closures for loading are arranged with Stoke-on-Trent City Council, or Staffordshire County Council for Newcastle-under-Lyme, Stone or Leek, and abnormal loads notified where needed.
Keeping production going during the move
The lines you can spare go first and are producing at the new site before the rest follows, with heavy lifts booked into weekends or a works shutdown. A ceramics firm can keep firing in the old building while its forming lines settle in at the new one.
Our storage covers any weeks between handing back the old unit and moving into the new one. Machines not coming with you leave for sale or disposal during the same visits.

Why Stoke firms choose Synergy Lifting for factory relocation
- Kilns travel as well as lathes. Firing equipment and glaze lines can move alongside moulding machines in one relocation, each packed for its own journey.
- Moulds and tooling kept with their machines. Press tools, moulds and spares are boxed and labelled to the machine they belong to, so nothing is hunted for at the new works.
- Lift-out to line-up on one contract. Craneage and the rebuild come from the same firm, and a named contact answers for the whole programme.
- Qualified and accredited. CPCS and NPORS operators, lifts planned to BS 7121, equipment inspected under LOLER and PUWER, SSIP approved, Constructionline Gold Member, certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, and members of the Construction Plant-hire Association.
More than factory relocation
These services link up with a Stoke relocation:
How a factory relocation works
- Tell us both addresses, roughly how many machines there are and when production must restart.
- We walk both sites and build the asset register, or price a smaller move the same day from a desktop survey.
- The quote comes with a programme in moving order, plus method statements, risk assessments and lift plans.
- Each machine is packed after extraction and travels to the new site in its turn.
- Our crew reinstalls, levels and sets each machine to line, then hands it over for recommissioning.
Common questions
Part of our Tunstall works is moving to a unit near Kidsgrove. How is the split handled?
At survey every item is marked as going or staying, and the asset register shows the order of the move. Isolations are planned so the plant left behind keeps its power and air.
Our works in Burslem is a listed building. Can the machines still come out?
In most cases, yes. We plan around existing doors and openings first, and anything that means taking out a panel or frame is agreed with the conservation officer beforehand. Large machines can also leave in sections.
Can we keep producing while we move?
In most cases, yes, for part of the plant. We move the lines you can spare first and get them running at the new site, then bring the rest across. It means more visits, and it keeps output going while the move is under way. We tell you at survey which parts can overlap.
How are disconnection and recommissioning handled?
We agree who does what at survey and write it into the programme. It is a mix of our crew, your maintenance team and the equipment manufacturers, and everyone knows their part before the first machine moves. Recommissioning is done with your engineers or the manufacturer.
