Factory Relocation Bristol

Factory relocation in Bristol and across the West of England

Factory moves in Bristol come from engineering firms on the north fringe, food and drink producers, process and energy operators at Severnside, and laboratories across the city. One point of contact covers the lot: survey and asset register, decommissioning alongside your engineers and the machine makers, strip-out and dismantling, lifting the plant clear, crating and transport, then offloading, positioning, levelling, setting to line and handover for recommissioning.

We cover Bristol, Avonmouth, Severnside, Filton, Patchway, Portbury, Portishead, Keynsham, Yate, Bath and Weston-super-Mare, and reach into Somerset, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and south Wales. A desktop survey prices a smaller move inside the working day.

What a factory relocation covers

A move can be a whole works or one department. The plant runs from CNC machine tools, presses and injection moulding machines to packing lines, conveyors, compressors, process tanks and skids, test equipment and racking. Machines staying behind are stripped out on the same visits for sale or disposal. Where the new premises are behind your leaving date, equipment waits in our storage.

Factory moves we plan in Bristol

Type of move What sets the timetable What we handle
Moving to a bigger or newer unit Bases and supplies signed off at the new unit Both buildings surveyed, then extraction, haulage and setting to line
Bringing two sites onto one How fast the site that stays can clear room One combined register, incoming machines slotted around what is running
A closure, with working plant going to a sister site in the UK or abroad The closing date and the slot at the far end Decommissioning, crating to suit the booking, disposal of the surplus
A single line or department moving How long the line can be down Strip-out, every part numbered, transport, rebuild and set running
A lease end forcing a move The date on the lease, whatever the new unit is doing Everything out before the keys go back, storage covering the wait

Our factory relocation service page covers each stage.

Where we work in and around Bristol

Relocation work in Bristol comes from these sectors.

Machine shops on the north fringe

Machine shops and test houses across Filton, Patchway and Bradley Stoke hold machining centres, grinders and measuring equipment that go back to a set tolerance. A larger unit means each is levelled and set to line at the far end. See the industrial sector page.

Dock estates at Avonmouth and Portbury

Workshops, fabrication bays and handling plant around the dock estates change buildings. Loading is booked around the permit rules and vehicle movements there, and the sequence is agreed first. See the maritime sector page.

Process and energy plants on Severnside

Severnside carries energy from waste, utilities and process plant. Where a unit is rebuilt elsewhere, pumps, vessels and skids come out inside a booked outage, crated for their destination. See the power and renewables and chemicals pages.

    Food and drink producers

Producers across the city and into Somerset move filling and packing lines when they change premises. Stainless plant is cleaned down and wrapped, then rebuilt to your auditors’ standard. See the food and beverages page.

    Laboratories and research buildings

When a department changes building, its workshops, analysers and laboratory equipment go across in order, one room signed off before the next starts. See the education and healthcare and pharma pages.

Access and planning for a factory move in Bristol

Points we check on most Bristol relocations:

    • Gradients and the crossings over the Avon. Bristol is steep, and a crane or loaded trailer on a slope behaves differently from one on the flat. The gorge and the river narrow the crossings a tall or heavy item can use.
    • Dates the new building has to hit. Floor, machine bases, power, air and a clear way in each carry a date on the programme.
    • The route out, machine by machine. Door and shutter sizes, headroom, the yard and whether a roof panel comes off decide how each machine leaves.
    • Made ground, cellars and what the slabs take. Harbourside and dock land is made ground, and cellars and vaults run under many older central streets. Skates and jacks put weight into a small footprint, so both floors are checked.
    • Clean air rules, closures and notified loads. The charging zone in the centre decides which vehicles come in and by which route. Where loading needs road or pavement space, we arrange the closure and traffic management with Bristol City Council, South Gloucestershire or North Somerset. Abnormal loads are notified where needed.

Keeping production going during the move

Phasing is what keeps output up. The lines you can spare travel first and are running at the new site before the rest follows. Heavy lifts go into weekends or a shutdown, and where a Severnside outage sets the window the sequence finishes inside it.

Handing back the old building and taking the new one rarely fall on the same day. Our storage covers the gap, with equipment delivered as each area becomes ready. Plant you are leaving behind goes for sale or disposal on the same visits.

    Postcodes and areas we cover

We cover every BS postcode and the districts around Bristol:

    • Bristol: city centre, the harbourside, Temple Meads, Bedminster, St Philip’s Marsh, Clifton, Redland, Fishponds and Westbury-on-Trym
    • North fringe: Filton, Patchway, Bradley Stoke, Downend and Yate
    • Docks and Severnside: Avonmouth, Severnside, Portbury and Portishead
    • Wider area: Keynsham, Nailsea, Clevedon, Thornbury, Bath and Weston-super-Mare

We relocate factories right across the UK and into Europe.

Why Bristol firms choose Synergy Lifting for factory relocation

    • Surplus plant handled with the rest. Machines you are not keeping go for sale or scrap on the same visits, and what the new unit cannot take waits in storage.
    • A move across the city or across the Channel. A move to a north fringe unit and one to a sister plant in Europe run off the same register, crated for the journey.
    • No gaps between trades. Our operators lift the machine out, riggers skate it to the lorry, our transport runs it and our fitters level it at the new site.
    • Qualified and accredited. CPCS and NPORS operators, lifts planned to BS 7121, equipment inspected under LOLER and PUWER, SSIP approved, Constructionline Gold Member, certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, and members of the Construction Plant-hire Association.

    How a factory relocation works

    1. Tell us both addresses, roughly how many machines are involved and the date production has to restart.
    2. We survey both sites and compile the asset register. Smaller moves are worked up from a desktop survey and priced the same day.
    3. The quote comes with a programme built on the move sequence, plus method statements, risk assessments and lift plans.
    4. Our crews extract and pack each machine, then run it to the new site in its slot.
    5. Every item is positioned, levelled, set to line and handed to your engineers or the maker for recommissioning.

    Common questions

We are moving from a central unit out to the north fringe. What decides the plan?

The way out of the building you are leaving usually does. Street width, gradient and the size of lorry that can turn in set the method, and the loads then run out on the M32 and the A38. Send both addresses and photographs of the largest machines.

Our Avonmouth works has a laboratory and test area as well as production. Does it all move together?

Yes. Heavy plant, benches, analysers and racking go on one register and travel in the order the new building takes them, so one room is in use while the next is fitted.

Can we keep producing while we move?

In most cases, yes, for part of the plant. We move the lines you can spare first and get them running at the new site, then bring the rest across. It means more visits, and it keeps output going while the move is under way. We tell you at survey which parts can overlap.

How are disconnection and recommissioning handled?

We agree who does what at survey and write it into the programme. It is a mix of our crew, your maintenance team and the equipment manufacturers, and everyone knows their part before the first machine moves. Recommissioning is done with your engineers or the manufacturer.
