Our work starts where three other trades finish. From Leagrave to Houghton Regis, each system is shut down, drained and locked off by your M&E contractor, in writing while the plant is still live. Refrigerant comes off under an F-gas certified engineer. Where a refurbishment and demolition survey has turned up asbestos, a licensed contractor clears and certifies the room ahead of our crew.

We ask for those dates at quoting stage, and our crane and transport bookings hang off them. If one of their dates slips, our start slips with it.

Common questions

Our yard is on the rising ground south of the town. Can a crane still reach the roof chiller?

Yes. The standing position is surveyed and the outriggers packed and levelled on mats, the boom reaching from the flattest ground.

The boiler room is under a town centre office with tenants above. How does it reach the street?

Parted in the room to pieces the stair or goods lift takes, skated to the loading point out of hours, then lifted onto a wagon at the kerb.

Can the building stay open while the plant comes out?

Usually, yes. Most of this work happens in buildings that keep running, so the route is protected, the hours are agreed with the building manager, and the heavy moves go at night or over a weekend where that suits everyone. On a heating or cooling system the building cannot lose, the new plant goes in and is proven before the old plant comes out.

Who isolates and drains the plant before you start?

Your M&E contractor, with the isolation, drain down and lock-off signed off in writing before we cut anything. Refrigerant recovery belongs to an F-gas certified engineer and asbestos to a licensed contractor, so we plan our dates around both. We agree at quoting stage who is covering what.
