Access and planning for a factory move in Exeter

Which junction each load uses. The M5 runs down the east side of the city, and a move puts a string of vehicles onto it, so junctions and departure times are set when the programme is written. Loads heading deeper into Devon take the A30, A38 or A377, checked for low bridges and weight limits.

Common questions

Our Devon food plant stops only for a short shutdown. Can a line move in that time?

A line can be split so the parts that travel together go in one visit and the rest follows. We record how it comes apart and work back from your shutdown dates.

We are taking a unit on a business park east of the city. What has to be ready?

The floor and machine bases, power, compressed air, drainage where a machine needs it, and a way in wide and tall enough for the largest item, each with a date we check before a lorry leaves.

Can we keep producing while we move?

In most cases, yes, for part of the plant. We move the lines you can spare first and get them running at the new site, then bring the rest across. It means more visits, and it keeps output going while the move is under way. We tell you at survey which parts can overlap.

How are disconnection and recommissioning handled?

We agree who does what at survey and write it into the programme. It is a mix of our crew, your maintenance team and the equipment manufacturers, and everyone knows their part before the first machine moves. Recommissioning is done with your engineers or the manufacturer.
