Access and planning for a factory move in Glasgow

The M8 and the hour each load runs. Getting a trailer away from a central unit means picking the hour as well as the route. Tall or heavy items get their Clyde crossing and their way past low bridges settled before any date is agreed.
The receiving unit on the dates it promised. Bases, power, air and a clear way in are checked against the asset register before the first lorry is loaded.
The route out, item by item. Openings are measured, height under beams and services taken, the yard paced out, and a cladding panel considered where nothing else will pass.
The slab at each address. Jacks and skates drive heavy loads into small areas. By the river the ground was built up over water, and east of the centre it has been dug under, so floors inside and standings outside are both proved.
Closures and notifications. Where loading needs road or footway space, we arrange the traffic management and closure with Glasgow City Council, or with Renfrewshire, North or South Lanarkshire and East or West Dunbartonshire outside the city. Abnormal loads are notified where needed.

Keeping production going during the move

Common questions

We are moving a machine shop from the east end to Lanarkshire. What order does it go in?

The order works back from your restart date. At survey each machine is numbered, weighed and given a route out and a marked position at the far end, so your critical machines go early.

Our bottling line can only stop for a long weekend. Is that enough?

Often it is, for part of a line or a short one whole. We take it down in labelled sections in the order it goes back together, then rebuild, level and set to line.

Can we keep producing while we move?

In most cases, yes, for part of the plant. We move the lines you can spare first and get them running at the new site, then bring the rest across. It means more visits, and it keeps output going while the move is under way. We tell you at survey which parts can overlap.

How are disconnection and recommissioning handled?

We agree who does what at survey and write it into the programme. It is a mix of our crew, your maintenance team and the equipment manufacturers, and everyone knows their part before the first machine moves. Recommissioning is done with your engineers or the manufacturer.
