Any heavy item raised, lowered, turned or moved along a route and placed on its base without a crane hook over it. Our crews use gantries, skates, rollers and jacks. Where a crane lands the item at the door, the shift takes over from there.

Access and planning for a lift and shift in Cardiff

Points we check on most Cardiff jobs:

Controlled rooms. Semiconductor and electronics rooms have rules on dust and vibration. We agree the wrapping and the gowning before we arrive.
What lies beneath. Bay land is largely made ground, and older streets have cellars under the pavement. We check what sits under the unloading point and the route, and lay mats or tracks where needed.
Clearance and the way in. We measure height with the item on the equipment, then every door and threshold from lorry to base.
Buildings that stay open. Hours and the route are agreed with whoever runs the building.
Space on the street. We can arrange traffic management and closures with Cardiff Council, and check the date against event days in the centre.

Getting it where it needs to go

Cardiff jobs bring new plant in or take old plant out, and plenty swap one for the other in a single visit. Some never go indoors: a transformer crossed over a yard onto its plinth, or a tank moved between two buildings.

We give you a price from a desktop survey the same working day, and visit first if the route is tight or the floors are unknown.
We draw up the method statement, risk assessment and lift plan, and check the floor loading along the route.
On the day the crew lifts, moves and positions the item.
We lower it onto its base, level it and hand it over for connection.

Common questions

Can you replace a chiller in a basement plant room under a Cardiff Bay block?

Yes. We check the ramp’s height and gradient and any hatch over the plant room, then decide whether the unit travels whole or in sections. Photos of the ramp and door are enough for a first answer.

Can you swap switchgear inside a planned outage?

Yes. Where the room allows, the new panels are placed beside the old before the outage, then we remove the old ones inside the window your electrical contractor gives us.

How much headroom do you need?

Less than most people expect, but it decides the method. What counts is the gap between the top of the item and the lowest obstruction on the route once the item is on the equipment. Where it is tight we use a low-headroom gantry or jacks and lift in smaller steps.

Will you damage our floor?

Not if the route is prepared, and that preparation is part of the price. We spread the load with mats or tracks where the slab needs it, protect finished surfaces, and agree beforehand what gets covered and what gets made good.
