Access and planning for dismantling in Peterborough
Before cutting begins on a Peterborough job, these are agreed:
- What carries the load once a member goes. Plant props itself up in ways nobody sees until a piece is removed, so each stage is checked for what the remainder carries, with temporary steel where needed.
- The last mile out into the Fens. Plenty of sites here sit at the end of a narrow lane with a weak bridge and a ditch down one side. That approach is driven and measured first, and it sets each section’s size.
- Access and rescue at height. Edge protection, platform positions, what holds a section while it is cut and the rescue plan go into the method statement.

- Crane standing and the load-out route. Dismantling for reuse, or for recovery
When the plant is due to be erected again somewhere else, the method changes at survey. Each item is match-marked and its position recorded as it comes free, joints are undone at flanges and bolts where the connection allows, and every piece is packed for the lorry. A machine sold on as working equipment gets the same care.
When none of it has a future, the money is in keeping the grades apart. Stainless is boxed away from carbon steel, and cable and non-ferrous each get their own container. Common questions
The plant sits on a Fen yard. Where does the crane stand?
On ground that has been proved. The bearing is checked, the standing matted and the outriggers kept back from the ditch, and the machine follows from what the yard will take.
Half the hall is redundant and the rest still packs. Can work run alongside?
Yes. The redundant half is fenced and handed to us, the hygiene boundary marked, and heavier lifts taken at a weekend.
How is dismantling different from demolition?
Demolition takes a structure down and the value is in the cleared site. Dismantling takes plant apart in the reverse of the order it went up, so what comes off keeps its value as equipment, as parts, or as material worth more separated than mixed. The planning takes longer and the work is slower, and on the right job it pays for itself.
Who cleans and certifies the plant before cutting?
Cleaning, purging and gas-free certification sit with the site operator or a specialist, and the sequence is planned around those certificates. Several are valid for one shift only, so the cutting is arranged to match when they can be issued. We agree all of that at survey and write it into the programme.
