Access and planning for lifts in Chesterfield
Every site is different, but a few things come up again and again on Chesterfield jobs:
- Getting there. Junction 29 on the A617, junction 29a straight into Markham Vale and junction 30 to the north all serve the town, with the A61, A619 and A632 taking traffic round it. Larger all-terrain cranes and ballast loads are still routed around low bridges and weight limits, and we plan the route before we quote.
- Former colliery ground. Much of the area east and north of the town is built on old mine workings and made ground. What the ground will carry is not always obvious, so we check ground bearing and plan the outrigger positions rather than assume.
- Gradients and the Peak edge. Ground rises quickly to the west towards Matlock and the Peak, which affects both routes and set-up positions on sites outside the town.
- Live production. On manufacturing and validated sites the lift fits around production, cleaning and shift patterns, so we agree the window and the standing position with the site team first.
- Road closures. Where a lift needs part of a road or pavement closed, we can arrange the traffic management and road closure with Derbyshire County Council or Chesterfield Borough Council as part of the job.

Common questions
Is old mine working a problem for crane set-up?
It can be, which is why we check rather than assume. Made ground and old workings change what the ground will carry, so we look at ground bearing, plan the outrigger positions and use crane mats where the bearing is marginal.
Can you work inside a validated or clean area?
Yes. That work is usually a crane to get the load into the building and then skates, air bearings or jacking to place it, with cleanliness and vibration limits written into the method. Tell us the site requirements with your enquiry.
Do you cover Sheffield and Mansfield too?
