Access and planning for a factory move in Oxford

Reaching the site by road. No motorway runs through Oxford. Loads come off the M40 by the A34 or A40, and the ring road is congested for much of the day, so arrival times are built around it.
The unit you are moving into. The floor, the bases, power, air and a clear way in each have their date on the programme.
How each machine leaves the old building. Shutter widths, the clearance under beams and the option of opening the roof settle the method, noted against that item on the asset register.
Ground and slabs at both addresses. A load on skates comes down on a small footprint, and the ground by the Thames and the Cherwell sits low, so standings outside are checked with the floors in.
Closures, the central zone and oversized loads. Loading that takes in part of a road needs traffic management and a road closure, arranged with Oxfordshire County Council. The zero emission zone and the bus-only streets decide what can reach a central address, and abnormal loads are notified where needed.

Production can keep running while the plant changes address. The equipment you can work without goes first and runs at the new building before the rest follows. Common questions

Our unit is on a science park where the estate sets hours for lorries and lifting. Can the move fit those?

Yes. We agree the windows with the estate management before dates are fixed, then build the sequence around what those hours allow.

We share a yard at Osney Mead with other tenants. Can machines be loaded out without blocking them in?

Yes. The loading area is marked out and worked one lorry at a time with a banksman on the gate, and the times are agreed with the neighbouring firms beforehand.

Can we keep producing while we move?

In most cases, yes, for part of the plant. We move the lines you can spare first and get them running at the new site, then bring the rest across. It means more visits, and it keeps output going while the move is under way. We tell you at survey which parts can overlap.

How are disconnection and recommissioning handled?

We agree who does what at survey and write it into the programme. It is a mix of our crew, your maintenance team and the equipment manufacturers, and everyone knows their part before the first machine moves. Recommissioning is done with your engineers or the manufacturer.
