Access and planning for a factory move in Coventry

Points we check on most Coventry relocations:

Long loads and the ring road. A works inside the ring road is reached by slip roads with tight bends and little length, which limits the trailers that can get in. Longer machines may be split for the journey or loaded when the junction is quiet.
A new unit ready for each delivery. Bases, power, air and a clear way in must be finished by the programme dates. We recheck it before the first lorry is loaded.
How plant leaves the old works. Doors, headroom, yard space and removable roof panels decide the method for each machine. In older Foleshill buildings a big press may leave through the roof by crane.
Slab strength, old building and new. Both floors are checked along each route, with plates or mats spreading the point loads from skates and jacks.
Permits and the way to the M6. If loading needs part of a road or pavement, we arrange the closure with Coventry City Council or Warwickshire County Council. Heavy loads head for junction 2 of the M6 and the M69 on the A46, or junction 3 on the A444, with abnormal loads notified where needed.

Keeping production going during the move

The lines you can spare are moved first and are producing at the new site before the rest follows. Heavy lifts can sit in weekends or inside your works shutdown, leaving the working week for production.

If your exit date comes before the new building is ready, storage fills the gap, useful when a unit near the M69 is still in fit-out. Plant you are not keeping can be sold or scrapped during the same visits.

How a factory relocation works

Start with both addresses, an approximate machine count and the date production must restart.
We survey the two sites and compile the asset register. Smaller moves can be priced the same day from a desktop survey.
A quote follows with a programme in move sequence, plus method statements, risk assessments and lift plans.
Equipment is extracted, packed and carried to the new site in that sequence.
At the new building, machines are reinstalled, levelled and set to line, then handed over for recommissioning.

Common questions

Can equipment leave a clean area on one of the technology parks without contaminating it?

Yes. Each item is wrapped inside the room before it moves, and our crew follows your entry and gowning rules on the way out. The cleanliness rules are written into the method statement.

Can you strip out the air pipework and ducting at our Exhall works?

Yes, as part of the strip-out. Once the supplies are isolated, as agreed at survey, our crew takes the pipework and ducting back to the agreed points. Reusable sections travel with the machines and the rest goes for disposal.

Can we keep producing while we move?

In most cases, yes, for part of the plant. We move the lines you can spare first and get them running at the new site, then bring the rest across. It means more visits, and it keeps output going while the move is under way. We tell you at survey which parts can overlap.

How are disconnection and recommissioning handled?

We agree who does what at survey and write it into the programme. It is a mix of our crew, your maintenance team and the equipment manufacturers, and everyone knows their part before the first machine moves. Recommissioning is done with your engineers or the manufacturer.
