Access and planning for a factory move in Leicester
Points we check on most Leicester relocations:
- Arriving on a working distribution park. A new unit near Lutterworth or Hinckley shares its estate roads with other tenants. Gate times and a waiting spot for each lorry are agreed with the park team, and loads are spaced through the day.
- Floor, bases and supplies at the new building. Each has a ready-by date in the programme, and we check the receiving site before plant leaves.
- Tight exits on the older estates. Units at Beaumont Leys and Hamilton can have small yards and doors sized for lighter plant. We log door width and headroom for each item, and where a roof panel could come off.
- Both slabs under skates and jacks. Skates and jacks concentrate a machine’s weight on a few small points, so we check the slab at both addresses. Yards on made ground near the Soar get mats under the outriggers.
- Permits and oversized loads. Loading from a road inside the city is arranged with Leicester City Council, and elsewhere with Leicestershire County Council. Abnormal loads are notified where needed before heading for junction 21 or 22 of the M1.

Common questions
Our knitting machines are decades old. How do they travel?
At survey we note which parts are fragile or loose. Those are removed and bagged with the machine, and the frame is braced and wrapped before it is loaded. Your technicians can check each one before it runs again.
Some of our Leicester plant is heading abroad. Who packs it and who ships it?
We decommission with your engineers, build export crates marked for the freight your forwarder has arranged, and load each consignment here. Tell us the destination at survey and the packing is planned from the start.
Can we keep producing while we move?
In most cases, yes, for part of the plant. We move the lines you can spare first and get them running at the new site, then bring the rest across. It means more visits, and it keeps output going while the move is under way. We tell you at survey which parts can overlap.
How are disconnection and recommissioning handled?
We agree who does what at survey and write it into the programme. It is a mix of our crew, your maintenance team and the equipment manufacturers, and everyone knows their part before the first machine moves. Recommissioning is done with your engineers or the manufacturer.
