First the machine is disconnected and made safe. Then it is rigged and extracted, transported, positioned, levelled and set down on its mounts. Some moves call for a crane and a low loader. Access and planning for a machine move in Hull

Points we check on most Hull jobs:

Getting loads in and out. The A63 carries traffic from the M62 into the city and past the docks, the A1079 heads north to York and the A15 crosses the Humber Bridge. We book load-outs to miss the busy hours on the dock approach and check low bridges and weight limits before we quote.
Estuary weather. Any part of a move that uses a crane outdoors near the river is checked against wind limits for that crane and that load, and the fallback date is agreed up front.
Floors and ground. Much of Hull is built on low-lying reclaimed ground. We confirm what a yard, quayside or factory floor will carry before we fix a skate route or crane position.
Shutdown dates. Food and process sites give us a set number of hours. We plan setting up and clearing away into that time so the machine is running when you need it.
Road closures. If a load-out needs part of a road or pavement, we arrange the traffic management and road closure through Hull City Council or East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Moving large or heavy machinery by road

A vehicle and load over 44,000kg gross, 2.9m wide or 18.65m long is an abnormal load. Up to 80,000kg the highway and bridge authorities need two clear working days’ notice through ESDAL, rising to five above that, when the police need notice too. Loads over 2.9m wide or 18.65m long also need two clear working days’ notice to the police. Above 150,000kg or 6.1m wide a Special Order is needed, applied for about ten weeks ahead. We handle the notifications ourselves or with your haulier. Heavy loads leaving Hull head west on the A63 to join the M62, or south over the Humber Bridge on the A15 into north Lincolnshire.

Common questions

Our yard is on soft, low-lying ground. Can you still get a crane in?

Yes. We check the ground bearing where the crane and trailer will stand, then use mats or steel plates to spread the load. If the yard will not take it, we skate the machine to firmer standing and lift from there.

Can you change a food production line over a weekend?

Yes, if the line is surveyed first. We map each machine, agree the order it comes back in and have the new positions marked out before the Friday, so your engineers can start commissioning on the Sunday.

Who disconnects and reconnects the machine?

Mechanical disconnection and making safe is usually ours, and we position the machine precisely enough for commissioning. Electrical and control reconnection is coordinated with your own engineers or the machine manufacturer, and who covers what is agreed at survey stage.

Can you move a machine that has broken down?

Yes. Breakdown work is prioritised because production has usually stopped. Call us with the machine details and we will give you a firm attendance time on the call.
