Access and planning for lifts in Grangemouth

Every site is different, but a few things come up again and again on Grangemouth jobs:

• Ground and buried services. Much of the area is reclaimed carse land threaded with pipework and cabling, so outrigger positions get checked against the site’s own service drawings before anything is set up.
• Road closures. Where a lift needs part of a public road or footway closed, we can arrange the traffic management and road closure with Falkirk Council as part of the job.

Common questions

Can you work inside the petrochemical complex?

Yes, and it is the work we are set up for. That means the crane is assessed alongside the load for the zone it is standing in, with exhaust and ignition controls, gas testing and a permit in place, and the lift sequenced against the isolation rather than the other way round.

How do you deal with pipe bridges and overhead pipework?

We plan the set-up position and the boom path against the site’s clearances before choosing the machine, which is why we ask for plant drawings or photographs early. Where the clearance will not allow a conventional slew, a pick and carry or a smaller machine working closer in is usually the answer.

Can you take on a turnaround at short notice?

Sometimes, but it depends more on the window than on the crane. Tell us the dates and the sequence you are working to and we will be straight with you about what we can commit to, rather than accepting the job and hoping.
