Factory Relocation Preston

Factory relocation in Preston and across Lancashire

Preston relocations come from vehicle and precision engineering firms, fabricators on the Red Scar and Walton Summit estates, and food producers along the M6 and M65. One point of contact runs the whole job: survey and asset register, disconnection and decommissioning with your engineers and the equipment makers, strip-out, lifting the machinery out, packing and crating, transport, offloading and positioning, then reinstallation, levelling, setting to line and recommissioning.

We cover Preston, Fulwood, Penwortham, Bamber Bridge, Lostock Hall, Leyland, Chorley, Longridge and Kirkham. A desktop survey can give you a quote the same working day.

What a factory relocation covers

You can move an entire works or one department, as a turnkey job, in the UK or into Europe. Machines staying behind can be taken out for sale or disposal on the same visit. If the new building is late, equipment waits in our storage. A small move can be done in a day, while bigger ones run in phases over months.

Factory moves we plan in Preston

Type of move What sets the timetable What we handle
Moving to a bigger or newer unit Sign-off of the new unit’s bases and supplies Surveys at both units, then reinstallation in layout order
Bringing two sites onto one Floor freed at the retained site One merged equipment list, incoming plant slotted between existing machines
A closure, with working plant going to a sister site in the UK or abroad The receiving plant’s commissioning slot Decommissioning with your engineers, crating for road or sea, and removal of the rest
Rearranging a factory within the same building or site Weeks when orders let each area pause Each machine moved to its new bay and set to line again
A single line or department moving A slot between production runs Sections marked, shipped and joined up again at the new position
A lease end forcing a move The dilapidations date in your lease A clear unit on time, with storage if the next building lags

Our factory relocation service page explains each stage.

Where we work in and around Preston

Preston factory moves come from these sectors.

Vehicle and engineering works south of the Ribble

When a vehicle or component maker around Leyland, Farington and Moss Side changes building, whole lines go with it, taken across in stages so orders can still leave. See our automotive sector page.

Chilled food and packing along the M6 and M65

Food producers beside the motorways take their packing lines, conveyors and process tanks to the new site in sections. Each section is put back together in the order your QA team wants to check it. See our food and beverages page.

Bamber Bridge, Cuerden and Walton Summit

When an engineering or trade firm here outgrows its unit, its presses, benches and racking travel together to the new floor plan. See our industrial sector page.

    Precision machining and aerospace supply

Machine shops across central Lancashire, some of them in the aerospace supply chain, take their CNC machining centres and measuring equipment to bigger premises as they grow. Each machine is levelled on its new base for your engineers to prove. See our aerospace sector page.

New units at Buckshaw and Cottam

New-build units at Buckshaw and Cottam draw firms out of older premises nearer the centre, and a clear floor lets a line be laid out afresh. See our construction sector page.

    Hospital and university workshops

When a hospital or university department changes building, its workshop and laboratory equipment travels room by room, placed ready for the manufacturer’s engineers. See our healthcare and pharma and education pages.

Access and planning for a factory move in Preston

Points we check on most Preston relocations:

    • Clearance at either address. If the site you are leaving or the one you are moving into runs its own vetting, every crew member and vehicle for both ends goes on the list we send with the first programme.
    • Handover of the new unit. Floor, bases, supplies and access must be ready on the programme dates, checked again before the first lorry loads.
    • Openings in the building you are leaving. Doors, headroom, yard space and removable roof panels decide how each machine comes out. Streets into the older parts of the city are tighter than the motorway end, so lorry sizes are set from the old address.
    • Load on both floors. Skates and jacks bear down through small feet, so we check the slab at each end and spread the load with plates where needed.
    • Closures through the county council. Where a load-out needs part of a road or footway, we arrange the traffic management and closure with Lancashire County Council, and notify abnormal loads where needed.

Keeping production going during the move

Moving in phases keeps part of the factory earning. Lines you can spare go first and are working at the new site before the others follow. Weekend and shutdown working are written into the programme.

A lease on a Bamber Bridge unit can end before the new building is finished, and our storage then holds the machines until the floor is ready. Equipment you have no further use for goes for sale or disposal during the same visits.

We cover every PR postcode across the city and central Lancashire:

    • Preston: city centre, Deepdale, Ribbleton, Fulwood, Ingol, Ashton and Cottam
    • South of the Ribble: Penwortham, Lostock Hall, Bamber Bridge, Walton-le-Dale, Leyland, Buckshaw and Chorley

Why Preston firms choose Synergy Lifting for factory relocation

    • Relocations are familiar work at Red Scar and Cuerden. Machinery installs and factory moves make up much of our crane work on the Preston estates.
    • Packing matched to the plant. Heavy vehicle plant from Leyland and stainless food equipment from the M6 estates are each crated to suit the item.
    • Every trade answers to one contract. The crane and rigging crew are ours, and so are the haulage and reinstallation, under one agreement with one named contact.
    • Qualified and accredited. CPCS and NPORS operators, lifts planned to BS 7121, equipment inspected under LOLER and PUWER, SSIP approved, Constructionline Gold Member, certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, and members of the Construction Plant-hire Association.

    How a factory relocation works

    1. Tell us both addresses, roughly how many machines there are and when production must restart.
    2. We visit both sites and build the asset register. For a smaller move, a desktop survey gives you a price the same day.
    3. You receive a quote and a programme in move order, with method statements, risk assessments and lift plans.
    4. Our team extracts, packs and hauls the plant in sequence.
    5. At the other end each machine is reinstalled and levelled, set to line and handed over for recommissioning.

    Common questions

Our new unit at Buckshaw is still being built. Can you tell the builder what the machine bases need?

Yes. At survey we record each machine’s footprint, weight and fixing points on the asset register, and that goes to your builder or structural engineer so bases, pits and supplies end up where the new layout puts them. The design of the bases stays with them.

Our Leyland test rigs and inspection machines are calibrated. How are they looked after on the journey?

They are packed to the manufacturer’s transport instructions, with moving parts locked and shock indicators fitted if you want a record. Your engineers or the maker recalibrate them once they are in place at the new site.

Can we keep producing while we move?

In most cases, yes, for part of the plant. We move the lines you can spare first and get them running at the new site, then bring the rest across. It means more visits, and it keeps output going while the move is under way. We tell you at survey which parts can overlap.

How are disconnection and recommissioning handled?

We agree who does what at survey and write it into the programme. It is a mix of our crew, your maintenance team and the equipment manufacturers, and everyone knows their part before the first machine moves. Recommissioning is done with your engineers or the manufacturer.
