Access and planning for dismantling in Liverpool
These get settled on a Liverpool job before the first cut is made:
- What the plant held. The site or a specialist does the cleaning, purging and gas-free certification, and the programme follows the shifts those certificates cover.
- Crane standing, ground bearing and the load-out route. Made ground runs through the dock estate and the riverside, and cellars sit beneath older pavements, so outrigger loads and mat sizes are settled first. Road closures are arranged with Liverpool City Council.
- Checking each stage before it is reached. Removing one item changes what its neighbours carry, so every stage is checked in the method, and temporary support goes in where the structure needs it.
- Getting sections away from Merseyside. Loads leave on the M62, M57 and M58, with the M53 for the Wirral. Tunnel limits on height, width and weight send an oversized section round by the Runcorn crossings, so piece sizes follow the route.
- Reaching the cut and getting back down. Much of this work is up on structures and roofs, so platforms, anchor points, edge protection and rescue go into the lift plan.
Dismantling for reuse, or for recovery
Where the plant has another home waiting, that shapes the work from the survey onwards. Each item is match-marked and its position recorded, connections are undone at flanges and bolts wherever a joint allows, and everything is packed to survive the lorry, the store and for a sea crossing where the plant is going overseas. Machinery sold on gets the same care.
Plant at the end of its life is a different job. Value sits in separation: stainless kept from carbon steel, cable and non-ferrous kept out of the mixed skip, and material cut to sizes that weigh in cleanly. Almost every job holds some of each. Whatever is coming back to you is identified at survey, and it is off the structure and packed before the burners start.

Common questions
Can plant go straight out to Ireland from the job?
Yes. Items are packed and recorded for the crossing as they come off, and loads are made up to suit the sailing rather than repacked later. Tell us the destination at survey and the packing follows it.
How far ahead of a shutdown should we call?
As early as the date is known. Survey, method, lift plan and gas-free certificates all sit ahead of the first cut, and a shutdown of this kind is fixed a long way in advance. With the date known early, the programme is built around the stop.
How is dismantling different from demolition?
Demolition takes a structure down and the value is in the cleared site. Dismantling takes plant apart in the reverse of the order it went up, so what comes off keeps its value as equipment, as parts, or as material worth more separated than mixed. The planning takes longer and the work is slower, and on the right job it pays for itself.
Who cleans and certifies the plant before cutting?
Cleaning, purging and gas-free certification sit with the site operator or a specialist, and the sequence is planned around those certificates. Several are valid for one shift only, so the cutting is arranged to match when they can be issued. We agree all of that at survey and write it into the programme.
