Industrial Plant Dismantling Teesside

Industrial plant dismantling in Teesside and across the Tees Valley

We dismantle industrial plant in Teesside for chemical and process operators, port and offshore wind suppliers, Hartlepool’s engineering base and manufacturers on the Stockton estates. The work covers factory strip-outs, redundant batching plants, process units and tank farms. A job runs from survey and method development through isolation, cutting in planned order, lifting down, segregation and load-out.

We cover Stockton-on-Tees, Thornaby, Billingham, Hartlepool, Redcar, Yarm, Eaglescliffe and Guisborough, with the Wilton side of the river and the A19 estates. Send us an outline and photographs, and the desktop survey turns a quote round the same working day. Shutdown and night shifts suit the sites here.

What dismantling covers

The order that built the plant gets run backwards. It is isolated and made safe first, then cut and separated in a sequence checked at each stage against what is holding up what. Part of it is re-erected elsewhere or sold on as a working machine, and the rest leaves as segregated material with a weighable value. Items going back up are match-marked and packed as they come off.

What we dismantle in Teesside

Plant What decides the method How it comes apart
Quayside handling plant and conveyors How much of the berth stays in use Taken down between vessel movements, craned to a wagon
Tank farms and bulk storage The certificate the operator can issue Shell cut in courses, bracing added as the height drops
Presses, plate rolls and overhead cranes Whether a buyer is waiting Runway load transferred, machines skated out whole
Extraction, ductwork and service pipe runs The hours the area is handed over Emptied by the site, slung at each hanger, lowered in lorry lengths
Boiler plant and site utilities How long the site runs without it Drained, broken down where it stands, lifted through the roof

Our industrial plant dismantling service page goes through the method step by step.

Where we work in and around Teesside

Dismantling enquiries reach us from these parts of the valley.

    The quays and Freeport land

Cargo handling equipment, hoppers, conveyor runs and the steel carrying them are replaced as berths change hands. Lifting is booked against vessel movements. See our maritime sector page.

    Wind and subsea halls

Halls along the estuary built for offshore wind and subsea work change layout as contracts change. Test rigs, welding plant, gantries and compressed air plant come out with life left in them. See our power and renewables page.

Shops re-equipping north of the estuary

At Hartlepool, machine shops and fabrication works take out presses, plate rolls, overhead cranes and extraction systems when a shop is re-equipped. See our plastics and metals page.

Preston Farm and the Stockton estates

Manufacturers on the A19 and A66 estates clear a line, a mezzanine deck, a compressor house or a redundant oven while the unit carries on. See our industrial sector page.

Plant rooms in Stockton and Thornaby

Heating and cooling plant in offices, factories, warehouses and public buildings goes out as replacements arrive. Boilers, chillers, air handling units and pipework are split small enough for the doorway. See our HVAC sector page.

Access and planning for dismantling in Teesside

What gets settled on a Teesside job ahead of the first cut:

    • What the plant held, and who clears it. Cleaning, purging and gas-free certification sit with the operator or a specialist, and several cover one shift, so cutting follows when each can be raised.
    • Wind coming off the estuary. A lift by the water comes off when it blows, so heavy sections go early in a window and the programme leaves room to catch up.
    • Access and rescue up on the structure. These jobs are worked from steelwork and access decks, so edge protection, platform positions, how a section is held while cut and rescue go into the lift plan.
    • What stays standing after each cut. Steelwork picks up loads it was never drawn to take, so each stage is checked for what the remaining members carry, with temporary support where needed.
    • Crane standing and the way off site. Ground along the Tees is made up in places, so outrigger loads and mat sizes are fixed before a position is agreed. Sections are sized to the route out, and a closure goes through whichever council the road belongs to: Stockton-on-Tees, Middlesbrough, Hartlepool or Redcar and Cleveland.

Dismantling for reuse, or for recovery

Plant going back up comes apart with that in mind from day one. Items are match-marked and their positions recorded as they come off, joints broken at flanges and bolts where the connection allows, and each is packed for the road. Machines sold on as working equipment get the same care.

Plant at the end of its life is a different job: the value sits in separation. Stainless is kept clear of carbon steel, cable and non-ferrous each get a container instead of the mixed skip, and everything is cut to lengths that weigh in. Teesside jobs usually carry both, so the survey starts with your list of what stays yours, and those pieces come off in the first shifts while everything around them is intact.

    Postcodes and areas we cover

We cover every TS postcode across the Tees Valley:

    • TS1 to TS8: Middlesbrough, with Ormesby, Eston and Grangetown on the Redcar and Cleveland side
    • TS9 to TS14: Guisborough, Redcar, Marske, Saltburn and Loftus
    • TS15 to TS21: Yarm, Eaglescliffe, Ingleby Barwick, Thornaby, Stockton-on-Tees, Norton and Sedgefield
    • TS22 to TS29: Billingham, Haverton Hill, Hartlepool, Seaton Carew and Trimdon

We dismantle plant right across the UK and into Europe.

Why Teesside firms choose Synergy Lifting for dismantling

    • A depot just west of the valley. Darlington sits a short run along the A66, so survey visits are quick to book and crews reach site early.
    • Records for anything going back up. Match-marks, photographs, a position record and a packing list travel with each item, so whoever rebuilds it has what is needed.
    • Crane, riggers, cutters and haulage on one order. All four come from us, so the job moves from stage to stage without waiting on another firm.
    • Qualified and accredited. CPCS and NPORS operators, lifts planned to BS 7121, equipment inspected under LOLER and PUWER, SSIP approved, Constructionline Gold Member, certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, and members of the Construction Plant-hire Association.

    How a dismantling job works

    1. Start with what the plant is, what ran through it and which parts you want back, with photographs or drawings.
    2. Our survey follows and the method comes from it, removal ordered so what remains stands safely at each stage.
    3. We write the method statement, the risk assessment and the lift plan, and agree the site’s certificates alongside.
    4. Cutting, lifting down and segregation run in that order, retained items released ahead of the rest.
    5. Sections load out, and anything going back up leaves with its match-marks and its record.

    Common questions

How do sections leave a quayside site?

Pieces are sized to the gate and the apron, and lifting is booked against vessel movements so the berth keeps working. When wind holds a lift, cutting that can be done from the deck carries on.

Who raises the isolations on a Billingham process site?

Your authorised people raise them under the site’s permit-to-work system, and we work to what each permit allows on its shift. At survey we go through the isolations the sequence needs, then write the programme around them.

How is dismantling different from demolition?

Demolition takes a structure down and the value is in the cleared site. Dismantling takes plant apart in the reverse of the order it went up, so what comes off keeps its value as equipment, as parts, or as material worth more separated than mixed. The planning takes longer and the work is slower, and on the right job it pays for itself.

Who cleans and certifies the plant before cutting?

Cleaning, purging and gas-free certification sit with the site operator or a specialist, and the sequence is planned around those certificates. Several are valid for one shift only, so the cutting is arranged to match when they can be issued. We agree all of that at survey and write it into the programme.
