Access and planning for a factory move in Wigan

- Crossing the canal and the main line. The West Coast Main Line and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal both cut across the borough. Rail bridges limit how tall a loaded trailer can be and older canal bridges how heavy, so each large item gets a checked route at survey.

Common questions
Our food lines are moving to a new building in Wigan. How is hygiene looked after on the way?
Your QA team sets the standard and signs the equipment off. At survey we agree with them how each item is cleaned down, wrapped and handled, and the new hall is cleaned before anything is rebuilt, so their checks can start as each line goes in.
Our presses in Wigan sit in pits. What happens to the pits when we leave?
We lift the presses out and cut back the holding-down bolts. Filling the pits is building work, so at survey we agree whether your contractor fills them or the landlord takes the unit as it stands, and the pits are fenced off in the meantime.
Can we keep producing while we move?
In most cases, yes, for part of the plant. We move the lines you can spare first and get them running at the new site, then bring the rest across. It means more visits, and it keeps output going while the move is under way. We tell you at survey which parts can overlap.
How are disconnection and recommissioning handled?
We agree who does what at survey and write it into the programme. It is a mix of our crew, your maintenance team and the equipment manufacturers, and everyone knows their part before the first machine moves. Recommissioning is done with your engineers or the manufacturer.
