Access and planning for a factory move in Hull
Points we check on most Hull relocations:
- Timing on the A63. Heavy plant heading for the M62 leaves Hull on the A63, and the stretch past the docks gets congested. Each load-out goes into the programme at an hour when that road is moving.
- A finished receiving building. Floor complete, bases set, supplies connected and a clear way in, all confirmed before any plant leaves the old site.
- Doors, headroom and the yard. Door widths, internal clearance, room in the yard and any removable roof panels decide the extraction method for every item, all recorded on the asset register.
- Ground and slabs at both sites. Much of Hull is low-lying reclaimed ground, so the crane standing in the yard is checked along with the slab inside, and plates or mats go under jacks and skates.

How a factory relocation works

Common questions
Our new site is in north Lincolnshire. Does crossing the Humber change the plan?
It can for tall plant. The A15 over the Humber Bridge is the direct route, and the bridge restricts high-sided vehicles in strong wind, so each large load is checked against the forecast, with the road round through Goole kept as a fallback.
Can plant heading to a sister site in Europe be packed in Hull?
Yes. After decommissioning, each machine is crated and case-marked to suit the sailing your freight forwarder has arranged, and leaves in the order the receiving plant wants.
Can we keep producing while we move?
In most cases, yes, for part of the plant. We move the lines you can spare first and get them running at the new site, then bring the rest across. It means more visits, and it keeps output going while the move is under way. We tell you at survey which parts can overlap.
How are disconnection and recommissioning handled?
We agree who does what at survey and write it into the programme. It is a mix of our crew, your maintenance team and the equipment manufacturers, and everyone knows their part before the first machine moves. Recommissioning is done with your engineers or the manufacturer.
