Access and planning for a lift and shift in Cumbria

Where the lorry can stop. In the Lakes, weight-limited stone bridges and single-track lanes decide the size of the delivery vehicle. When it stops at a lay-by or the hotel gate, the item finishes the journey on skates over boarding, and we plan that distance in advance.
Old floors and cellars. Older buildings in Kendal and Penrith can hide timber floors or vaulted cellars. We find out what sits under the route and spread the load with mats or steel tracks where needed.
Headroom and the way in. We measure clearance with the item on the equipment, plus stairs, hatches, doors and every turn.
Buildings that stay open. Hotels keep trading and food lines keep running, so we agree working hours with the site.
The road outside. If the vehicle has to offload on the highway, we can arrange the closure with Cumberland Council or Westmorland and Furness Council.

Getting it where it needs to go

Some jobs bring plant into a building or take it out, and a swap does both in one visit. Others never go indoors: a transformer moved across a works yard onto its plinth, or a condenser craned to a factory roof and skated to its frame.

Hotel cellars bring steep stone stairs and low vaults, while food plants have ramps and level changes. Mills add mezzanines and narrow doors, and offices goods lifts and raised floors. Gantries, jacks, rollers and skates get most items past these, with a crane where one helps. When nothing fits, we strip back a door frame and make it good, or take the item through in sections.

Common questions

Can you change a boiler in a hotel cellar without closing the hotel?

Yes. The new boiler comes down through the hatch or stair on a gantry and the old one leaves the same way, in hours agreed with the manager. Photos of the cellar and the way in are enough for a price.

Can you swap a standby generator at a treatment works in one visit?

Yes. Once your electricians disconnect the old set, we skate it out and the new one in, levelled on its mounts the same day, so the site is without standby power for as little time as possible.

How much headroom do you need?

Less than most people expect, but it decides the method. What counts is the gap between the top of the item and the lowest obstruction on the route once the item is on the equipment. Where it is tight we use a low-headroom gantry or jacks and lift in smaller steps.

Will you damage our floor?

Not if the route is prepared, and that preparation is part of the price. We spread the load with mats or tracks where the slab needs it, protect finished surfaces, and agree beforehand what gets covered and what gets made good.
