Machine movement in Deeside and across Flintshire and Cheshire

The sequence runs from disconnection and making safe to rigging and extraction, then transport, positioning and levelling onto mounts. A heavy press leaving a unit may need a crane and a low loader. Access and planning for a machine move in Deeside
Points we check on most Deeside jobs:
- Getting loads in and out. The A494 over Aston Hill, the A55 along the coast and the A548 through Connah’s Quay and Flint are the main approaches, with the A483 south to Wrexham. We check height and weight limits before we quote.
- The border. A site in Sealand and a site in Chester can be a few minutes apart and answer to different highway authorities. Permits go to the right authority for each end.
- Reclaimed ground. Much of the industrial frontage sits on made-up estuary marsh. We confirm what yards and floors will carry before fixing a crane position, and use mats or steel plate where needed.
- Shutdown and outage dates. Outages on process and power plant are booked well ahead. We fit our dates to yours, set-up and clearance included.
- Road closures. Where a load-out needs part of a road or footway, we can arrange the traffic management and road closure with Flintshire County Council, Cheshire West and Chester Council or Wrexham County Borough Council.
Moving large or heavy machinery by road
A vehicle and load over 44,000kg gross, 2.9m wide or 18.65m long is an abnormal load. Up to 80,000kg the highway and bridge authorities need two clear working days’ notice through ESDAL, rising to five above that, when the police need notice too. Loads over 2.9m wide or 18.65m long also need two clear working days’ notice to the police. Above 150,000kg or 6.1m wide a Special Order is needed, applied for about ten weeks ahead. We handle the notifications ourselves or with your haulier. From Deeside, heavy loads head west on the A55 or cross into England for the M56 and M53.

Common questions
The machine is going from a site in Wales to one in England. Does that change anything?
The move itself is the same. Each highway authority on the route gets its own notification or closure request, and we make those for both ends. Give us both addresses at the start.
Can you move a machine between two units on the industrial park?
Yes. A short move still needs the machine lifted, loaded, secured and set down again, so it is planned in the same way as a longer one. Where the two units are close together, the whole job can fit inside a single shift.
Who disconnects and reconnects the machine?
Mechanical disconnection and making safe is usually ours, and we position the machine precisely enough for commissioning. Electrical and control reconnection is coordinated with your own engineers or the machine manufacturer, and who covers what is agreed at survey stage.
Can you move a machine that has broken down?
Yes. Breakdown work is prioritised because production has usually stopped. Call us with the machine details and we will give you a firm attendance time on the call.
