Access and planning for a factory move in Sheffield
Points we check on most Sheffield relocations:
- Hills between the two addresses. Even a short move across Sheffield can climb or drop steeply, and a machine loaded on a sloping street needs extra restraint for the journey. Gradients on the route go into the transport plan.
- Bases, power and air at the new unit. Floor, bases, supplies and a clear way in each get a date, and we check the receiving building against them before plant leaves.
- Doors, roof panels and headroom in older works. Older Don Valley works can have low roofs and narrow doorways. Door widths, the yard and whether a roof panel can come off decide how each machine leaves.

How a factory relocation works
- Tell us both addresses, roughly how many machines are involved and when production must be running again.

Common questions
Our Sheffield food plant is moving to a new building in Barnsley. Can you work to the new layout drawing?
Yes. We take the layout at survey, check each machine’s footprint, drains and service points against it and mark the positions on the new floor before the first delivery. Lines then arrive in the order they are rebuilt.
Our presses went in decades ago and nobody has drawings. Can you still plan the move?
Yes. At survey we measure and photograph each machine, take its weight from the plate or the maker and log it on the asset register, so missing drawings will not hold up the programme.
Can we keep producing while we move?
In most cases, yes, for part of the plant. We move the lines you can spare first and get them running at the new site, then bring the rest across. It means more visits, and it keeps output going while the move is under way. We tell you at survey which parts can overlap.
How are disconnection and recommissioning handled?
We agree who does what at survey and write it into the programme. It is a mix of our crew, your maintenance team and the equipment manufacturers, and everyone knows their part before the first machine moves. Recommissioning is done with your engineers or the manufacturer.
