Access and planning for a lift and shift in Glasgow

Points we check on most Glasgow jobs:

Unloading on a slope. Several cross streets in the central grid climb steeply. An item on skates cannot run downhill from a tailgate, so we use the level side of the block where possible and keep the load chocked.
Floors and yards. Skates and jacks bear down hard on small points, so we check each slab and what lies beneath it, laying mats or steel track where needed. Yards on reclaimed riverside land get the same check.
Headroom and the route. We measure clearance with the item already on the equipment, along with every door and turn between the lorry and the base.
Buildings in use. Offices and production halls keep working around us, so route and hours are agreed with the site first.
Loading from the street. Central loading restrictions leave a lorry little room, so we can arrange traffic management and a road closure with Glasgow City Council.

Getting it where it needs to go

Glasgow jobs run in every direction. New plant goes in, old plant comes out, and plenty of jobs swap one for the other in a single visit. Others stay outside: a transformer moved across a yard onto a plinth, or a unit craned to a roof and skated along it.

Sandstone blocks bring narrow basement stairs and small goods lifts. Estate units have mezzanines and ramps, while newer buildings add raised floors. Gantries, jacks, rollers and skates get past most of it, with a crane where it helps. When nothing fits, a door frame comes out and is reinstated, or the item goes through in sections.

Common questions

Can you deliver plant to a building on one of the steep city-centre streets?

Yes. We look at the gradient outside and the door threshold, then decide where the lorry stands and how the item is held on the slope. Photos of the street and entrance are enough to start.

Can you get a boiler into the basement of a sandstone office building?

Yes. We check the basement stair and any pavement hatch, then decide whether the boiler goes down whole on a gantry or in sections.

How much headroom do you need?

Less than most people expect, but it decides the method. What counts is the gap between the top of the item and the lowest obstruction on the route once the item is on the equipment. Where it is tight we use a low-headroom gantry or jacks and lift in smaller steps.

Will you damage our floor?

Not if the route is prepared, and that preparation is part of the price. We spread the load with mats or tracks where the slab needs it, protect finished surfaces, and agree beforehand what gets covered and what gets made good.
