Access and planning for a machine move in Coventry

Getting loads in and out. Heavy loads reach the city on the M6 at junctions 2 and 3, the M69 and the A45 and A46. We check low bridges and weight limits before pricing.
The ring road. Its slip roads are short and tightly curved, which limits the length of trailer that can reach a site in the centre. For long loads we pick the approach and the hour of travel at survey stage.

Up to 80,000kg the highway and bridge authorities need two clear working days’ notice through ESDAL, rising to five above that, when the police need notice too. Loads over 2.9m wide or 18.65m long also need two clear working days’ notice to the police. Above 150,000kg or 6.1m wide a Special Order is needed, applied for about ten weeks ahead. We handle the notifications ourselves or with your haulier. From Coventry, heavy loads join the M6 or M69 within a few miles, with the A45 and A46 carrying them round the city.

Common questions

Can you set a test rig or machine tool to a fine tolerance?

Yes. Once the machine is inside, air skates and hydraulic jacks bring it onto the marks your engineers have set out. Send the tolerance with your enquiry and it goes into the method statement.

Our unit has a small yard and a narrow door. Can the machine still come out?

Yes. We measure the opening and the yard, then choose between stripping guarding and covers to bring the width down, taking the machine out in sections, or lifting it clear with a compact crane. Photos of the door and yard are enough to start.

Who disconnects and reconnects the machine?

Mechanical disconnection and making the machine safe are normally done by us, and we set it down accurately enough for commissioning to start. Electrical and control reconnection is coordinated with your engineers or the machine manufacturer, and the split of work is agreed at survey stage.

Can you move a machine that has broken down?

Yes. A stopped machine means stopped production, so breakdown calls are prioritised. Ring us with the machine details and we will give you a firm attendance time on the call.
