Access and planning for lifts in Warrington

• The Ship Canal crossings. This is the one that catches people out. The swing bridges carry weight and width limits and they open for shipping, so a crane that can reach a site from one bank may not be able to get there from the other. We work the crossing out before the crane, not after.

• Ground near the canal and the Mersey. The low ground either side is soft and in places made up, so we confirm bearing pressures and use mats where the outrigger loads call for it.
• Road closures. Where a lift needs part of a road or footway closed, we can arrange the traffic management and road closure with Warrington Borough Council, or with Halton or Cheshire East as the site requires.

Common questions

Can a large crane reach a site on the south side of the Ship Canal?

Often yes, but not by every route. The swing bridges limit weight and width, so the answer depends on which bank the site is on and which crossing the load can legally use. Send us the postcode and we will tell you what can get there before you plan anything around it.

Can you lift into a building through the roof?

Yes, and on the older works along the canal it is often the only way in. We look at the opening, the internal headroom and where the crane can stand and still reach the final position, and we plan the rigging for the landing rather than just the pick.

Do you work on the chemical sites at Runcorn and Widnes?

Regularly. Those sites set the sequence through their permits and isolations, so tell us the window you have been given and the plant involved and we will build the lift around it.
