Access and planning for lifts in Sunderland

Every site is different, but a few things come up again and again on Sunderland jobs:

• Getting there. The A19 runs north to south past the city with the A1(M) further west, and the A690 and A1231 bring traffic in from either side. Larger all-terrain cranes and ballast loads are routed around low bridges and weight limits, and we plan the route before we quote.

Common questions

Can you lift near the Metro lines?

Yes, with the clearances agreed beforehand. The overhead lines set a minimum distance for the boom and the load, and some positions need an isolation arranging, so the earlier we have the address the better.

Can you work inside a production shutdown?

Yes, and on the manufacturing sites here that is when most of the work happens. Give us the window and the lift details and we’ll plan the crane, the route and the set-up around it, including nights and weekends.

Can you work inside the port?

Yes. Port sites mean inductions, permits and vehicle rules, and lifts planned around vessel and cargo movements. Tell us the berth and what the site requires and we’ll build it into the lift plan.
