01. Project
What we did
Synergy Lifting were approached by an international company setting up a new foam manufacturing facility in the UK. Part of this new factory setup needed 12no tanks putting into position in a very tight space.
The 12no tanks, weighing 7te each, were delivered to site and offloaded into laydown areas outside the new factory. To offload them, we utilised a Liebherr LTM 1060-3.1 mobile crane.
We then positioned each tank in front of the factory ingress point and used two pick and carry cranes to take them inside – a Valla 120E electric pick and carry crane and a Valla 75 electric pick and carry crane. As you can see from the project photos, it was a very tight fit! Thanks to our skillful operators, all 12no tanks were taken in through this tight opening without any issues.
The hard part was yet to come. The tanks now needed to be lifted into a pit and then standing up and positioning inside the pit. The first tank was brought alongside the pit and a city crane was utilised to lift it into the pit. We then used the city crane and one of our pick and carry cranes to top and tail the tank. Headroom was particularly tight so this had to be done under ridge of the roof. We then had to skate the tank along into its final position using a custom jig we created for this particular job. This then had to be repeated another 11 times!
On this job, we also assisted with other work such as the installation of overhead cranes.

How we did it
Plant and Equipment
This job was a good example of the different cranes that are needed for different lifting activities. We utilised a Liebherr LTM 1060-3.1 for offloading the tanks from transport. We then used Valla 120E and a Valla 75 electric pick and carry cranes to take the tanks inside. Finally, we used a city crane to lift the tanks into the pit and then used the Valla 120E to assist the city crane with standing the tanks up.
On this same job, we also used a Liebherr LTM 1095-5.1 and a Liebherr LTM 1090-4.1 to perform a tandem lift to assist with the installation of new overhead cranes.
Labour
As always, our appointed person carefully planned these lifting operations – offloading, shifting, ingress, shifting again, lowering, top and tailing, and skating.
This work was then supervised by one of our directors and executed without any issues. The tanks were all successfully positioned upon completion, without any damage. This was thanks to our skilled operators, slingers, and riggers who were involved in this project.

How we can help you
Another firm had already been approached to look at this work prior to Synergy Lifting but they had not been able to commit. Understandably, this was not just a straightforward crane hire job. This work needed a firm with multiple disciplines. Offloading the tanks was straightforward. Shifting them inside needed our specialist pick and carry cranes. Lowering them into the put and standing them up was only made possible by our careful planning and skilled team.
If you have new equipment being delivered to your factory and the site constraints make it a difficult task for ingress or positioning then get in touch with us. Likewise, we can also remove old equipment from factories too.
