Industrial plant dismantling in London and across the home counties
Building owners, facilities teams, manufacturers and estates departments call us when plant is finished with and has to come out of a building that keeps working around it. We survey the plant, develop the method and cutting sequence, isolate and make safe, cut and separate in planned order, lift down, segregate and load out. The work runs from stripping out a factory to taking down redundant batching plants, process plant and tank farms.

What dismantling covers
Plant comes apart in the reverse of the order it went up. Some of it goes back up elsewhere, match-marked, recorded and packed for the journey, and some sells on as working machines. The rest is separated as it comes down so the material can be weighed and sold. We ask which of those you are after before anything else, because it decides the method.

Access and planning for dismantling in London
In London these get settled before any cutting starts:
- What the plant held. It has to be cleaned, purged and certified gas-free before we cut, and the certificates often cover one shift, so the cutting order works around them.
- Hot work and the building’s fire systems. Hot work in an occupied London building is often restricted or ruled out, so the plant comes apart cold instead. Detector isolations, fire watch and hours are agreed first.
- Plant that is propping something up. A vessel or a frame can be holding something that is on no drawing, so the survey settles where the load goes and temporary support goes into the sequence.
- Crane standing, ground bearing and the way out. A central site usually gives one crane position, often with a basement or vault under it, so mats and bearing pressures suit what is down there. Any closure or traffic management goes through the borough, or Transport for London where the road is theirs.
- Working at height and rescue. This work happens on structures more than floors, so access, edge protection, how each member is held as it is cut and how we get someone down all go into the lift plan.
Dismantling for reuse, or for recovery
Where plant is going back up elsewhere, each item is marked and its position recorded as the plant comes apart, joints are undone at flanges and bolts where that is possible, and everything is crated for the road. Plant sold on as working machines gets the same handling.
Where plant has reached the end of its life the value sits in segregation: stainless kept apart from carbon steel, cable and non-ferrous kept out of the mixed skip, and material sized so it can be weighed and sold. It is usually some of each. Tell us which items you want kept and those come down first, inside whatever window the street closure allows.

Common questions
Hot work is banned in our building. Can the plant come out?
Yes. It comes apart cold instead: bolts released, flanges broken, and shears and saws on anything that has to be cut through.
Our plant room is in a basement. How do the sections get out?
Each piece is sized at survey to the smallest opening on its route, a goods lift, a stair, a pavement hatch or a lightwell, then loads from the kerb in the hours the borough allows.
How is dismantling different from demolition?
Demolition takes a structure down and the value is in the cleared site. Dismantling takes plant apart in the reverse of the order it went up, so what comes off keeps its value as equipment, as parts, or as material worth more separated than mixed. The planning takes longer and the work is slower, and on the right job it pays for itself.
Who cleans and certifies the plant before cutting?
Cleaning, purging and gas-free certification sit with the site operator or a specialist, and the sequence is planned around those certificates. Several are valid for one shift only, so the cutting is arranged to match when they can be issued. We agree all of that at survey and write it into the programme.
