Access and planning for a factory move in Liverpool

Points we check on most Liverpool relocations:

Loads bound for the Wirral. A tall or wide machine going to Birkenhead or further into the Wirral cannot use the Mersey tunnels, so it crosses the river at Runcorn and the programme allows for the longer run.
The new unit on the day. Floor, bases, supplies and a clear way in each have a date, checked before anything leaves the old building.
Leaving the old premises. Doors, headroom, the yard and any removable roof panel decide how each machine gets out. Older buildings near the centre are tighter than the Speke or Kirkby units.
Slabs and ground at each address. Near the river much of the ground is reclaimed, and cellars run under older streets. Before any machine goes onto jacks or skates, the slab inside and the crane standing outside are both checked.
Councils and big loads. Where loading needs road or pavement space, we arrange the closure with Liverpool City Council, or Knowsley, Sefton, St Helens, Halton or Wirral beyond it, and notify abnormal loads where needed.

Keeping production going during the move

Phasing the move keeps a Liverpool factory trading. We take the lines you can spare first and have them producing at the new site before the rest comes over. Heavier stages go into weekends or your shutdown, and a Speke manufacturer moving to Kirkby can keep one building working while the other fills.

If the old lease ends before the new building is ready, our storage covers the gap. Machines you are not keeping can be removed for sale or disposal on the same visits.

How a factory relocation works

Tell us both addresses, roughly how many machines are going and when production must restart.
We visit both sites and log every item on the asset register, or price a smaller move the same day from a desktop survey.
Our quote sets out a programme in the order the plant will move, together with method statements, risk assessments and lift plans.
The crew extracts and packs each machine, then carries it across in its booked slot.
At the new building every machine is reinstalled, levelled and set to line, then handed over for recommissioning.

Common questions

Some of our plant is going to our site in Ireland. Can you get it onto a ferry?

Yes. Once your engineers have decommissioned it, we crate each item for the Irish Sea crossing and have it at the port on the date your freight forwarder gives us. The rest can move to its UK address in the same programme.

How far ahead should we call about leaving a unit on the Kirkby estates?

As early as you can. Both sites are surveyed before the programme is fixed. Give us your lease end and restart dates at first contact and we plan back from them.

Can we keep producing while we move?

In most cases, yes, for part of the plant. We move the lines you can spare first and get them running at the new site, then bring the rest across. It means more visits, and it keeps output going while the move is under way. We tell you at survey which parts can overlap.

How are disconnection and recommissioning handled?

We agree who does what at survey and write it into the programme. It is a mix of our crew, your maintenance team and the equipment manufacturers, and everyone knows their part before the first machine moves. Recommissioning is done with your engineers or the manufacturer.
