What a factory relocation covers
A relocation can take a whole works or one hall of it: CNC machine tools, presses, conveyors, packing lines, process tanks and racking. Machines you are leaving behind are stripped out for sale or disposal on the same visits. Where the new building is unfinished, the plant waits in our storage until the bases are ready. Access and planning for a factory move in Dumfries
Points we check on most Dumfries relocations:
- Long routes on narrow roads. Away from the A74(M) and the A75 the roads across the region are single carriageway, with bridges that carry weight limits. Tall and wide items have their route settled at survey, and abnormal loads are notified where needed.
- What the new building has ready. Bases poured and cured, power, compressed air and drainage in the right positions, and a clear way in for the largest item, each with its date on the programme.
- How each machine leaves the old works. Door and gate widths, headroom under the beams, yard room for a crane, and whether a cladding panel can come off, recorded machine by machine.
- Point loads from jacking and skating. Old mill and creamery floors, and yards that soften after a wet week, take a small footprint badly, so both are checked and plated where the figures call for it.
- Standing on the road to load. Where a lorry or crane has to stand on a street in the town or a narrow country road, traffic management and closure are arranged with Dumfries and Galloway Council.

A phased relocation keeps orders going out. The lines you can spare travel first and are producing at the new address before the rest follows, and the heaviest lifts are booked into a weekend or a planned shutdown.
Leaving one building and opening another seldom fall on the same date, so our storage covers the gap and the plant comes out when the floor and services are finished. A Heathhall firm moving east can have its first machines running while the last are still being packed. Whatever stays behind is cleared for sale or disposal.

Common questions
Our new building is outside Dumfries and Galloway. Can you plan both ends?
Yes. We survey both buildings and put them on one programme. Moves into Ayrshire, the Scottish Borders, Cumbria and mainland Europe run the same way, with export crating for plant going abroad.
Our shutdown falls in winter. Will the weather hold the move up?
Work inside the building carries on whatever it is doing outside. Anything needing a crane or an open yard goes early in the window, and the programme carries a spare day from the start.
Can we keep producing while we move?
In most cases, yes, for part of the plant. We move the lines you can spare first and get them running at the new site, then bring the rest across. It means more visits, and it keeps output going while the move is under way. We tell you at survey which parts can overlap.
How are disconnection and recommissioning handled?
We agree who does what at survey and write it into the programme. It is a mix of our crew, your maintenance team and the equipment manufacturers, and everyone knows their part before the first machine moves. Recommissioning is done with your engineers or the manufacturer.
