Access and planning for a factory move in Warrington

- The swing bridges on the Ship Canal. Stockton Heath, Grappenhall, Appleton and Walton lie south of the canal. When a move crosses it, each large item is matched to a bridge it can legally use, and lorries are spaced so a bridge swinging for shipping holds up only the one at it.

Common questions
Our Westy works has to build stock before the line moves. When will we know the dates?
The programme comes with the quote, after we have surveyed both sites, and it fixes the day each line stops and the day it should be running again. Your planners can build stock against those dates, and we confirm each one with you the week before.
Our process skids in Widnes have stood in one building for years. Can they move without being taken apart?
Some can travel whole on a low loader, depending on their size and the route out. Others are split at flanges your engineers choose, with each joint tagged so it goes back together the same way at the new site.
Can we keep producing while we move?
In most cases, yes, for part of the plant. We move the lines you can spare first and get them running at the new site, then bring the rest across. It means more visits, and it keeps output going while the move is under way. We tell you at survey which parts can overlap.
How are disconnection and recommissioning handled?
We agree who does what at survey and write it into the programme. It is a mix of our crew, your maintenance team and the equipment manufacturers, and everyone knows their part before the first machine moves. Recommissioning is done with your engineers or the manufacturer.
