Machine Movement Warrington

Machine movement in Warrington and across Cheshire

We provide machine movement in Warrington for engineering works, chemical sites, distribution parks, laboratories and hospitals across the borough. That means single machines and whole production lines: new installations, relocations to another site, re-laying a shop floor for new equipment, and taking redundant plant out for resale or scrap, plus loading, haulage, storage and breakdown work.

The Manchester Ship Canal splits the town, and its swing bridges carry their own weight and width limits, so every quote starts with the crossing. We cover Warrington, Birchwood, Stockton Heath, Great Sankey, Lymm and Culcheth, and west to Widnes and Runcorn. Most enquiries are priced the same working day from a desktop survey.

What a machine move involves

Each move follows the same sequence: disconnect and make safe, rig and extract, load and transport, then position, level and set down on mounts. Heavier plant may need a crane and a low loader. Plenty never leave the building and move on jacks, skates and gantries. The machine’s weight and the way out decide which.

What we move in Warrington

Equipment Where it usually is How it moves
Machine tools, CNC and presses Engineering works at Bank Quay, Latchford and Westy Raised on jacks, rolled out on skates and loaded by gantry
Pumps, vessels and heat exchangers Chemical and process sites in Runcorn and Widnes Craned out, then rolled to the new plinth
Conveyors, sorters and racking Distribution sheds at Omega and the motorway junctions Broken down by section and rebuilt between shifts
Laboratory and test equipment Science and technology businesses at Birchwood and Daresbury Air skates on a protected route to marked positions
Chillers, air handling units and boilers Plant rooms on hospital, college and school sites Crane to the roof, or skated in through a ground floor door
Transformers, switchgear and generators Substations and energy plant around the town Set down on firm standing, then skated onto the plinth

Give us the weight, the footprint and both addresses and we will say how it moves. More detail is on our machine movement service page.

Where we work in and around Warrington

Our Warrington machine movement work spreads across six kinds of site.

Logistics parks and the motorway junctions

Omega and the parks by the motorway junctions are very large sheds. When a tenant changes or a contract lands, conveyors, sorters, racking and packing equipment are stripped out, moved or added while the building keeps trading. See our construction sector page.

    Chemicals at Runcorn and Widnes

Downriver, pumps, motors, vessels and exchangers come out and go back in during a shutdown, in the order the site’s isolations allow. Standing room between pipe racks is tight, so crane and trailer positions are drawn up before we arrive. See our chemicals sector page.

    Engineering works along the canal

Bank Quay, Latchford and Westy hold engineering and process firms in buildings older than the machines inside them. A new machine tool can need a roof opening or a wall panel removed to get in, and worn-out presses leave the same way. Firms outgrowing their premises move the whole shop with us. See our industrial sector page.

    Power and energy

Transformers and standby generators around the town are changed on outage dates agreed well ahead with the network operator, and decommissioned power sites add heavy removal work. See our power and renewables page.

    Birchwood and Daresbury

Science, technology and data businesses here run laboratory instruments and data hall equipment. Loads are light. The effort goes into protecting floors on the way in and landing each unit on its marked position. See our data centre infrastructure page.

    Hospitals and schools

We replace chillers and air handling units on hospital and education sites with wards and classrooms still occupied, after agreeing access with the estates team. See our healthcare and pharma and education pages.

Access and planning for a machine move in Warrington

Points we check on most Warrington jobs:

    • Getting loads in and out. The M6, M56 and M62 reach the town from every direction. The Thelwall Viaduct and the junctions near it decide which route a large load can take at a given hour. Low bridges and weight limits on the approach are checked before we quote.
    • Crossing the Ship Canal. The swing bridges carry weight and width limits and close to traffic when they open for shipping. We fix a legal crossing for any load to or from the south bank at survey.
    • Floors and ground. Old works floors can crack under a point load, and the low ground by the Mersey is soft in places. Steel plates and mats spread the load where the figures call for it.
    • Shutdowns and shift patterns. At Runcorn and Widnes the permit dates set the programme. Distribution parks give us gaps between shifts, and schools give us the holidays.
    • Road closures. If a load-out needs part of a road or footway, we arrange the traffic management and road closure with Warrington Borough Council, or Halton Borough Council for Runcorn and Widnes.

Moving large or heavy machinery by road

A vehicle and load over 44,000kg gross, 2.9m wide or 18.65m long is an abnormal load. Up to 80,000kg the highway and bridge authorities need two clear working days’ notice through ESDAL, rising to five above that, when the police need notice too. Loads over 2.9m wide or 18.65m long also need two clear working days’ notice to the police. Above 150,000kg or 6.1m wide a Special Order is needed, applied for about ten weeks ahead. We handle the notifications ourselves or with your haulier. Heavy loads leaving Warrington join the M62 to the north or the M56 to the south, with the M6 linking the two east of the town centre.

    Postcodes and areas we cover

We cover every WA postcode in the borough and the districts next to it:

    • Warrington: town centre, Bank Quay, Latchford, Westbrook, Orford, Padgate and Birchwood
    • South of the canal: Stockton Heath, Grappenhall, Appleton, Walton and Lymm
    • North and west: Great Sankey, Penketh, Burtonwood, Winwick and Culcheth
    • West and south-west: Runcorn, Widnes, Daresbury and Frodsham
    • Wider area: Newton-le-Willows, St Helens, Northwich and Knutsford

We also move machinery right across the UK.

Why Warrington firms choose Synergy Lifting for machine movement

    • Permit sites are routine for us. Inductions, permits, isolations and exclusion zones on process plant are normal working, and we build the sequence around the site’s dates.
    • Planned around your trading. Your site keeps working while we move equipment, with the order of work and handover dates agreed at the start.
    • One firm from start to finish. We run the crane, skates, jacks, gantries and transport with our own people, from survey to set-down.
    • Qualified and accredited. CPCS and NPORS operators, lifts planned to BS 7121, equipment inspected under LOLER and PUWER, SSIP approved, Constructionline Gold Member, certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, and members of the Construction Plant-hire Association.

    How a machine move works

    1. Send us the weight and dimensions, where the machine is now, where it is going and your dates. Photos help.
    2. We price it, usually the same working day from a desktop survey. Complex moves may need a site visit first.
    3. We prepare the method statement, risk assessment and lift plan.
    4. On the day we rig, extract, transport and position the machine.
    5. It is set down and levelled, ready for your engineers to reconnect and commission.

    Common questions

Our new unit is south of the Ship Canal. Does that affect the move?

It can. Each swing bridge has its own weight and width limits and closes to road traffic for shipping. Send us both postcodes and we will confirm a crossing the load can use, and the route, with the price.

Can you change equipment during a shutdown on a chemical site?

Yes. Give us the plant list and the dates the site has set, and we will fit the extraction and installation around its permits and isolations. Crew inductions are booked before day one.

Who disconnects and reconnects the machine?

Mechanical disconnection and making safe is usually ours, and we position the machine precisely enough for commissioning. Electrical and control reconnection is coordinated with your own engineers or the machine manufacturer, and who covers what is agreed at survey stage.

Can you move a machine that has broken down?

Yes. Breakdown work is prioritised because production has usually stopped. Call us with the machine details and we will give you a firm attendance time on the call.
